Key Responsibility Tasks
Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is currently promoting two major advocacy initiatives – one related
to helping improve Gender Justice. In support of these engagements, IRW’s policy and advocacy
department is seeking an intern to assist with research and policy analysis that would:1. Support research of Islamic theological perspectives on gender issues to inform IR Gender
Framework.
2. Coordinate working space of IR Global Gender Working Group on the Extranet and support
administration of the group.
3. Support research of GBV programming in humanitarian and development context and
integration of these concepts with Islamic faith principles in order to inform gender policy
toolkits, in particular the module on GBV.
4. Support development of gender e-learning modules (including GBV module).
5. Contribute to gender awareness training sessions in the headquarters.
6. Support internal communication for gender justice within Islamic faith based framework.
7. Further continue gender mapping of Islamic Relief family when necessary to inform gender
action plan and the roll-out of Gender training to the field.
8. When possible suggest recommendations for increasing gender-sensitivity in the organisation,
based on the review of internal procedures and policies.
9. Any other ad-hoc tasks related to gender training and gender integration into the project cycle.

A graduate with a minimum honours degree in the last 2 years in development, social and
political sciences, psychology or a related field.
Background in Gender and Development studies preferred.
Background in basic Islamic studies preferred.
Committed to learning and fulfilling the Internships Scheme.
