SUMMER POSITION: IslandLink Library Federation - Travelling Puppet Show COORDINATOR
(1 position available - subject to funding)
Term: May 25 - August 21, 2015 (13 weeks)
Hours of work: 40 hours per week ; may include some weekends & evenings
Compensation: $15.00/hour plus 4% vacation pay
Location: Victoria, BC [with some travel to Alert Bay, Powell River & Salt Spring Island]
Duties: Responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Travelling Puppet Show (TPS) Project, working in collaboration
with a Program Facilitator and acting as the project leader when required, under the general direction of the IslandLink
Library Federation Manager:
 Work with member library staff in Greater Victoria, Alert Bay, Powell River & Salt Spring Island, to schedule &
promote puppetry performances and 3-day long puppetry & drama camps in July & August
 Develop puppetry performance scripts & “day camp” programs, targeted primarily at children in primary grades;
may include some “drama camps” or workshops for teens
 Design and create backdrops, costumes and props
 Deliver puppet shows with participating libraries
 Deliver 3-day puppetry camps and/or or drama camps with participating libraries
 Maintain project statistical and anecdotal records
 All other aspects of the project as required
Requirements:
 Post-secondary student who attended school on a full-time basis in the 2014/15 academic year and intends to
return to full-time studies in the 2015/16 academic year
 Between the ages of 16 and 30
 Registered with Young Canada Works at https://www.youngcanadaworks.ca/
 Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada
 Areas of study might include: Theatre, Dramatics, Early Childhood Education, Education, Library Science (Youth
Services), Children’s Literature, Art and/or Music
 Outgoing personality; Public performance experience; Public speaking skills
 Excellent interpersonal communication skills
 Project management or Program planning experience
 Ability to work as part of a team
 Experience and interest in working with children and teens
 Familiarity with the Internet, email, word processors, spreadsheets and social media
 Valid driver’s license (own vehicle would be an asset)
 Travel to IslandLink communities is required
 In accordance with BC legislation requirements, a criminal records check must be conducted before employment
