As a fifth grader, because my
family moved, I had the
opportunity to attend JA
BizTown twice! The first time
I was a bank teller and the
second time I was the
manager at McDonald's. It
was different from being told
what to do, to telling people
what to do. I was "in charge"
so if I didn't get it right they
didn't either.
Years later I got involved with
Junior Achievement's
Entrepreneurial Academy. It
taught me how to dress for
success, how to write a
resume, how to make
presentations and helped me
to develop my social skills. It
gave me confidence! It was
a blast! Thank you for the
opportunity!
Junior Achievement Entrepreneurial
Class of 2014-2015
Congratulations to the 2014-2015 graduating
class from the JA Entrepreneurial Academy!
(JAEA) What does it take to be successful in an
ever changing global economy? After twenty
weeks, these high school students know. As JA
interns, these individuals put in the extra time and
effort to develop the skills they will need to be
successful.They grew personally and
professionally gaining valuable leadership
experience while developing the understanding of
the value of teamwork. They had the opportunity
to meet leaders in various fields across industries
who provided invaluable guidance and direction as
they plan for the next step in their lives.
Central to JAEA, was to explore
entrepreneurship as a viable career option. These
lessons culminated with a "Shark Tank"
competition. Eight JAEA companies presented
their innovative business plans to the "Sharks".
PetTECH's Finding Fido was the winning idea with
a talking dog collar that helps reunite the lost pet
with its owner using state of the art technology.

Tampa General Hospital and
USF Health are pleased to

with Junior Achievement
Tampa Bay as they become
co-sponsors of a health care
storefront at the Pam & Les
Muma JA BizTown at Bill
Poe Family JA Center.
Students will no longer have
to imagine what it would be
like to be a part of the health
care field; they'll actually get
to experience it. In this real
world simulation built just for
students, they will follow a
series of classroom activities
about businesses and jobs at
Junior Achievement's Muma
JA BizTown.
In partnership with the
School District of
Hillsborough County, the
Junior Achievement program
is designed to meet the
needs of all students.

New Teen Money Survey Shows
Need for Financial Literacy
Education
Nearly half of teens (48%) think their parents
will help pay for college.
However, only 16% of parents report that they
plan to pay for
their child's postsecondary education.

expenses such as
paying for college.

JA Heritage Society Spotlight
Emily Duty
"One of my favorite
parts of being
involved with
Junior
Achievement for
over 20 years is
seeing how JA has
changed the lives
of 100's of
thousands of our
Tampa Bay youth
through financial
literacy". Emily
Duty is a Vice
President and Senior Commercial Lender for
Northern Trust in Hillsborough County. Ms. Duty
has spent her career in banking, the last eleven at
Northern Trust. Emily understands the value of
financial literacy and describes JATB as a futurist
organization, "constantly evolving programs,
partnerships and fundraising initiatives that are
realistic and relevant for the students of Tampa
Bay". She has served on the Board of Directors,
Executive Committee, as a classroom volunteer, is
a Giving Society Member, and is now an honored
Trustee. Emily shared that because of her
confidence in Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay,
the Board of Directors and Staff she chose to
make a charitable bequest and become a member
of the Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay Heritage
Society. Emily considers Financial Education one
of the most important initiatives that businesses in
the Tampa Bay area can get involved in. "When I
was growing up it was taught at home and in
school, but not as often anymore. It's important for
kids to see that their "needs and wants" in life
need education and a plan".

JA Partners with
Hillsborough County
Education
Foundation
We are pleased to
announce our first annual
partnership with the
Hillsborough County
Education Foundation for
the 2015 Student
Internship Fair. Students
from four area schools
participated in a JA Career
Success program in
March.
The four schools
participating were:
Bowers Whitley taught by
Grow Financial volunteers,
DW Waters taught by
Clifton Larson Allen's Jose
Valiente and Lisa Wilkie,
Simmons and South
County Career Center
taught by volunteers from
Tampa Bay Career
Source. The top students
from each school will
attend the career fair on
April 9th at the Florida
State Fairgrounds. They
will participate in
interviews and have an
opportunity to gain
workforce experience
through a summer
internship at a local
business.

Bay Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay is
excited to be part of Give Day Tampa Bay.
What is Give Day?
Give Day Tampa Bay is a one-day online giving
challenge on May 5th led by the Community
Foundation of Tampa Bay and the Florida Next
Foundation to raise support for local nonprofits to
grow philanthropy in our region. It is a communitywide event to show off Tampa Bay's spirit of
giving, raise awareness about local nonprofits, and
celebrate the collective effort of our region.
How does Give Day benefit the Junior
Achievement?
Every donation to the Junior Achievement of
Tampa Bay on Give Day will benefit JA
Financial Literacy Programs. Your support through
Give Day Tampa Bay will help JA become eligible
for matching funds.

USF Day of
Difference
Our annual USF Day of
Difference at Pizzo and
USF Patel elementary
schools was a huge
success. 60 USF students
taught Kindergarten
through 2nd graders. The
organizations involved
were: Bulls Business
Society, NSCS, Beta
Alpha Psi, and Business
Honors. It's a great day
when our local college
leaders take time to
mentor young students
and inspire them to
continue their education.

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF TAMPA
BAY RECEIVES $7,000
GRANT FROM STATE FARM
The grant will enable 923 Tampa Bay 4th
grade students to participate in the program,
"JA More Than Money"
Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay
announced that it has received a grant in the
amount of $7,000 from State Farm Insurance
to support the implementation of the "JA
More Than Money" program for Hillsborough
County fourth grade students.
JA More Than Money (MTM) is a one day
program for 4th graders that teaches
students about earning, spending, sharing
and saving money as well as offering ideas to
students about how they can start their own
business or find jobs that they can perform to
earn money. The project is a partnership of
State Farm, Junior Achievement Tampa Bay,
and Hillsborough County Public Schools.
Staff from Junior Achievement will recruit and
train volunteers from the business community
to present the interactive Junior Achievement
curriculum "More Than Money". Following
participation in the program, students are
able to build on their understanding of money
basics and apply those skills to daily life, as
well as recognize the significance of money
management in making informed life
decisions.
The check presentation took place at Muma
JA BizTown at Bill Poe Family JA Center on
Wednesday, March 17, 2015.
