Businesses make economic case for shift to clean energy
National business organization including major Northwest brands endorses Alliance for Jobs and Clean
Energy
SEATTLE – Today, Business for Innovative Climate and Energy Policy (BICEP), a group of major businesses
committed to advancing smart climate and clean energy policies, endorsed the Alliance for Jobs and
Clean Energy.
“I’m glad to stand before you today and announce our support for the efforts underway to make
Washington and Oregon leaders in the nation in building a low-carbon economy,” said Mindy Lubber,
President of Ceres, making the announcement at a Climate Solutions fundraising event this morning.
“Ceres’ business advocacy coalition, BICEP, has endorsed the Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy and
Renew Oregon and is excited to flex our muscles in support of state policy leadership.”
BICEP, a project of Ceres, is an advocacy coalition of dozens of large businesses committed to working
with policy makers to pass meaningful energy and climate legislation that will help the nation rapidly
transition to a low carbon, 21st century economy. A full list of BICEP members can be found here.
Lubber also announced BICEP’s support for the Renew Oregon coalition.
BICEP joins the growing list of businesses, communities of color, public health organizations, faith and
labor groups, environmental NGOs and citizens calling for climate policy in Washington State. To date
the Alliance has endorsed the Carbon Pollution Accountability Act and proposed Clean Fuel Standard.
“Today’s news reminds us that making the transition to clean energy is an economic imperative,” said
Lisa MacLean, Director of the Alliance. “Accounting for the cost of carbon pollution to our economy and
communities will create new jobs and stimulate economic growth while creating a stable climate for
long-term prosperity.”
The Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy is Washington State’s coalition of individuals, organizations, and
businesses dedicated to reducing global warming pollution and strengthening our economy. We call for
action to protect the people, places, and quality of life of the state we are proud to call home.
