Winter Season Club Basketball Competition (Terms 2 & 3, 2015)
Dear Parents/Guardians, Basketball has a long and successful history at John Paul College. The club basketball program is proud to provide a complete pathway with basketball options for students of every age, from Prep to Year 12. Club basketball is a great opportunity and environment for players of all ages and abilities to play in both social and competitive forms of the sport. We have many enthusiastic, committed volunteers and experienced, qualified coaches helping our juniors reach their full potential. With an emphasis on fun and participation, the basketball program aims to develop our children into confident players and, even more importantly, positive contributors to the John Paul College Basketball community. The following information for the upcoming club basketball season should provide helpful details: Winter Season Club Basketball Competition (Terms 2 & 3, 2015) SEASON DATES 2015 Winter Season of the Logan Basketball Club Competition th th Commences: Friday 8 /Saturday 9 May 2015 th th Concludes: Friday 18 /Saturday 19 September 2015 (start of school holidays) AGE GROUPS The John Paul College Basketball Club will be fielding teams for boys and girls in the following age groups: Thunderball (modified court) Born 2008 or later* (ages 4-7) Under 9 (full court) Born 2007 or 2008* Under 11 Born 2005 or 2006 Under 13 Born 2003 or 2004 Under 15 Born 2001 or 2002 Under 17 Born 1999 or 2000 Youth Premier League (competitive) Born 1996 or later Logan Basketball has introduced new “odd years” age groups for the Winter season to bring the club competition into alignment with the representative season. *Players born in 2008 (turning 7 in 2015) can choose to participate in either Thunderball or U9: Thunderball – mixed teams, modified short courts, lower rings. U9 – offered separately for boys and girls, played on full court with full height rings. To qualify for an age group, players must be under that age until the end of the year that the competition st ends in. For example: to play U13s this season, a player cannot turn 13 before 31 December 2015. Logan Basketball will generally structure teams into Division 1 and Division 2 within an age group. If we receive enough JPC registrations to enter two or more teams in the same age group, players may be allocated to a Division 1 or Division 2 team based on factors including team balance, age, skill/experience, etc. If necessary, trials will be held for all age groups from U10 – Youth Premier League towards the end of Term 1, 2015. DAYS AND VENUES Primary venue: InSports Cornubia Park Sports Centre, 146 Bryants Rd, Shailer Park. Secondary venue: Mt Warren Sports Centre, 2 Milne St, Mt. Warren Park. Thunderball and U19 will play at Cornubia only. Both venues will be used for all age other groups. Thunderball, U9, U11 and U13 play on Saturday mornings. U15, U17 and YPL play on Friday nights. TRAINING All teams will have a compulsory training session once per week (either before or after school), sometimes combined with other teams of the same gender and age group depending on court availability. Details will be confirmed at the start of Term 2. UNIFORM Players should wear their JPC basketball playing shorts and their JPC P.E. shorts to and from each game. Playing shorts are yours to keep. New players will receive their shorts at the start of the season. Playing singlets are the property of the College and must be returned at the end of each game and taken home by players/parents to be washed as a set. COST Logan Basketball have introduced a new streamlined payment system, effective this season. Instead of paying club and game fees to JPC, and then separately paying annual registration fees to Logan Basketball, the new system allows for a simple one-off payment which includes all playing costs for the entire Winter season. Your Winter season junior club membership fee covers: Logan Basketball fee (includes Winter season game costs and referee levies) Basketball Queensland fee (includes 12 months registration and playing insurance) JPC club fee (covers Winter season team nominations, training/coaching, uniforms, end of season trophies, etc) Please note that Winter season membership includes a full 12 months of Basketball Queensland registration, valued at either $60 or $80 depending on your child’s age. If you pay for Winter season membership now then register for the Summer season later in the year, you will not have to pay the BQ registration component again. You will only have to pay the LBI and JPC season costs. JPC proudly remains the cheapest junior club at Logan Basketball by an average of $60 per player. All fees will be charged to your Term 2 JPC school fees account. JPC Winter Season Membership Fees Thunderball $160 per player U9 $230 per player U11 $280 per player U13 $300 per player U15 $300 per player U17 $300 per player YPL $300 per player (includes 12 months BQ registration - $60) (includes 12 months BQ registration - $60) (includes 12 months BQ registration - $60) (includes 12 months BQ registration - $80) (includes 12 months BQ registration - $80) (includes 12 months BQ registration - $80) (includes 12 months BQ registration - $80/$99) 2014 Registration Credit If your current LBI/BQ registration expires in either September, October, November or December 2015, you will receive a credit for the unused portion of your 365 day registration.
