Massachusetts Bankers Association Annual Convention
2015 Massachusetts Bankers Association Annual Convention April 30 through May 3 Fairmont, Southampton, Bermuda The Annual Convention of the Massachusetts Bankers Association will be held in cooperation with the Rhode Island Bankers Association from Thursday, April 29 through Sunday, May 3, at the Fairmont, Southampton, Bermuda. The Program The convention serves as a major activity of the Association for banker/director education, as well as grassroots networking among our member institutions and Associate members. Our preliminary program includes nationally recognized authorities addressing vital issues affecting the financial services industry in Massachusetts, New England and the national level. This year we have developed the most timely program, with topics relevant to your bank as well as the local/global economy. Highlights Include Brian Krebs (Invited) From the “control room” in his Virginia home, Brian Krebs is exposing some of the world’s largest data breaches and the hackers behind them. The former Washington Post journalist now reports independently for his cybersecurity blog, Krebs On Security, and is considered to be a leading authority on data breaches and cybercrime. Through Krebs On Security, Krebs was the first to break the news of major data breaches at a string of retailers over the past year, including Target Corp., Neiman Marcus, Michaels, Sally Beauty, P.F. Chang’s, Dairy Queen, Jimmy John’s, Goodwill and — most recently — the card breaches at Home Depot and Kmart. Prior to founding KrebsOnSecurity, Mr. Krebs worked as a reporter for The Washington Post from 1995 to 2009, authoring more than 1,300 blog posts for the Security Fix blog, as well as hundreds of stories for WashingtonPost.com and The Washington Post newspaper, including eight front-page stories in the dead-tree edition and a Post Magazine cover piece on botnet operators. Mr. Krebs is also the author of the book Spam Nation: The Inside Story of Organized Cybercrime. Jim Olson Professor Olson is a Senior Lecturer at the Bush School, where he teaches courses on intelligence, national security, and international crisis management. He served for over 25 years in the Directorate of Operations of the Central Intelligence Agency, mostly overseas in clandestine operations. In addition to several foreign assignments, he was Chief of Counterintelligence at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. Professor Olson has been awarded the Intelligence Medal of Merit, the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal, the Donovan Award, and several Distinguished Service Citations. Professor Olson is the author of Fair Play: The Moral Dilemmas of Spying. Professor Olson takes you inside the real world of being a CIA spy. He explains how the global war on terror affects everyone, how the United States remains vulnerable within its borders and how U.S. intelligence offers to protect the country and its vital interests. Richard Picciotto The highest-ranking firefighter to survive the World Trade Center collapse, and the last fireman to escape the devastation, Richard “Pitch” Picciotto was on a stairwell between the sixth and seventh floors of the North Tower when it collapsed on September 11, 2001. An FDNY battalion commander, his is the harrowing true story of an American hero, a man who thought nothing of himself and gave nearly everything for others during one of our nation’s darkest hours. Mr. Picciotto tells an outspoken account of that indelible day, shaking and inspiring audiences to the core. His book, Last Man Down, is a tribute to the 343 firefighters and 2,400 civilians who died in the rubble that surrounded him on that day. It is a heartfelt remembrance of a day of infamy and profound humanity. The book was an immediate New York Times bestseller upon its release in May 2002. Eric Rosengren (Invited) Eric Rosengren has been president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston since July 2007. Previously he headed the Bank’s supervision, regulation, and credit group, and was active in domestic and international regulatory policy. He joined the Bank in 1985 as an economist in the research department, with a B.A. from Colby College and an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He has written extensively on macroeconomics, international banking, bank supervision, and risk management; including articles in leading economics and finance journals. Much of his recent research has focused on how problems in the financial sector impact the real economy. He is a director of the United Way, a trustee of Colby College, and a member of advisory boards at Colby College and the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Rosengren will discuss the economic and financial outlook for the New England economy. Marci Rossell Marci Rossell electrifies audiences nationwide, speaking on the nexus of economics, politics, culture and the media. She served as the popular Chief Economist for CNBC. Prior to her career in broadcast journalism, Marci served as Corporate Economist and Investment Spokesperson for OppenheimerFunds, one of the nation’s largest mutual fund companies. Before moving to Wall Street, she was an expert witness for Deloitte and Touche in court cases involving economic issues. Marci began her career as an economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. She currently serves as a senior economic advisor to Delphin Investments, an investment firm based in Stamford, CT.
