Welcome to the July issue of Future Magazine! Every year, the E3
expo in LA promises an action packed week of announcements
which pave the way of the gaming landscape for the remainder
of the year, and this year was no different.
With the widest portfolio of global gaming brands ever, this issue has a lot
to cover. It was clear that software is the big focus for the platform holders
and we’re excited to bring you more information and give you a taste of the
things you missed from Microsoft, Turtle Beach, Ubisoft and some of our
other brands at this years’ conference.
A football fan or not, no one can deny the huge impact the World Cup has
had on our lives over the past 3 weeks. The eager anticipation of the glory
to come in the weeks leading up to our first game, followed by bitter
disappointment as those dreams were shattered.

GamesAid Golf and Spa day
returns for its 7th year
The Annual Entertainment Industry’s charity event is back
The Annual Entertainment Industry Charity Golf & Spa
Day returns for its 7th year on Thursday 17th July 2014
in association with Exertis Gem for GamesAid. Once
again, The Grove in Watford, the venue of Tiger Woods’
victory in the American Express Championship in 2006,
will be the home of the event.
Non-golfers can make use of the Grove’s Sequoia Spa
amenities, including the indoor pool and fitness facilities
exclusively, with at least one hour of treatments.

supplier, to distribute Hive Active Heating™.

Introducing Steven Douglass
After several years working in various sales roles at Exertis Gem, Steven Douglass is back to head up the
Independent sales team a department he helped set up and manage some seventeen years ago.
So, Steven, tell us what you have been doing for
the past nine years...
I have mainly been working in various business
development roles. After leaving the Indies I became
a funded head for first Prima and then Microsoft.
My primary focus was to launch into various
non-traditional areas.
Key successes during this time included the opening
of trading relationships with accounts such as Marks
and Spencers, Next, Boots, CO-OP and several
Catalogues who at that time were buying through a
different channel.
What do you think you can add to the team?
We are in a very fortunate position to have exclusive
trading agreements with several key Partners including
Microsoft Xbox, Take 2, Ubisoft, Roku and Livescribe,
and ‘Official Distributor’ status for Turtle Beach.
After a few years it was clear that the catalogue business
warranted extra focus and so we set up a department
dedicated to catalogue sales which is where I have been
ever since.
It is my aim to ensure that we meet their expectation by
maximising sales within the Indie market. In addition we
also trade with publishers such as Nintendo, Konami and
Square who have an open distribution policy.
Has much changed since you were last involved
with the Indies?
Sadly many of the small chains are no longer trading but
I still recognise many accounts that were around when I
was last on the department. Full respect to those as it’s
an extremely competitive market out there.
By focusing on our service levels and relationships I want
Exertis Gem to be viewed as the distributor of choice by
our customers.
As for the team itself there are two account managers,
Sarah Champ and Chief Wiggam (Adrian Fairbrother)
that were around when I was last involved. In addition
Paul Langley works with me on catalogues who was also
involved in the initial set up of the Indie department.
So when you are not at work, what floats
your boat?
I am a keen (but not very able these days) Rugby player
and currently Captain of the Essex Bishops; an over 35’s
invitational team made up of players from several Essex
clubs who play matches for charity.
We have kind of named ourselves “The Expendables”!!
Last year we took part in Ruggerthon where we played 26
half hour matches over four days and raised over 20k for
the Injured Players Foundation.
We have also merged the Business team into the
department and so I am currently swatting up on all
things non-gaming!
Rugby aside I do love a game of online chess and can
be challenged by logging onto REDHOTPAWN.COM,
My username is Mister Biggins (don’t ask).

E3 2014 Round up
Big news from big brands, all available

SteelSeries debuted a host of exciting new products at E3
for release later in 2014.
Specifically designed and optimised for gamers, the
Sentry Eye Tracker is a virtual, visual coach, which
provides players with the ability to track, analyse and
benchmark eye movement and behaviors during
gameplay. A training tool helps gamers to improve
performance and ultimately win, analysing past replays
to see where they were looking and not looking on
the screen.
Graphs, heat-maps and statistics help users
improve, while also comparing their results with pro
gamer benchmarks.
SteelSeries’ Stratus XL controller, meanwhile, lets
players control hundreds of compatible iOS games with a
full-sized, console-style joypad.
More than 300 titles for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch
now support wireless Bluetooth controllers, and the
Status gives gamers the chance to engage in more
immersive gaming experience on their Apple iOS devices.
With the option of either a full-sized or pocket-sized
wireless controller from SteelSeries, gamers can have
both bases covered.

A new range of The Sims 4 peripherals is built for
avid fans of the hugely popular virtual life franchise.
The all-white headset and the glossy white mouse
both feature an illuminated Plumbob that changes to
reflect the current emotional state of the Sim, while
the branded mousepad features a smooth
micro-fiber surface.
E3 2014
The wireless Ear Force Elite 800 boasts a ton of high-end
features for the discerning console gamer. With 7.1 surround
sound, active noise cancellation, hidden dual mics and a
magnetic charging stand, this is the ultimate gaming headset.
Elsewhere, the wireless Ear Force Stealth 400 is a stereo
headset compatible with PS3 and PS4 consoles. On-ear
padded cups feature 50mm Neodymium speakers, and 15
hours of wireless play. The Ear Force P12, meanwhile, is a
USB stereo headset for PS4, and includes an in-line amplifier,
allowing users to adjust volume or mute the mic.
For Xbox One users, Turtle Beach revealed two new
headsets:the top-of-the-range wireless 7.1 capable Ear
Force Stealth 500X, and the lightweight Ear Force
Xbox One. In total, Turtle Beach now offers five Xbox
One headsets.
PC gamers weren’t left out, however, with a
Heroes of the Storm-branded stereo headset,
featuring swappable speaker plates, and powerful
50mm speakers. The Ear Force Recon 320,
meanwhile, offers immersive 7.1 surround sound,
swappable speaker plates and high-sensitivity
microphone on a flexible, removable boom that
provides loud, clear chat audio.
NEW EXCLUSIVE games announced for Ouya
It may have been a big show for Xbox One and PS4,
but there were plenty of new titles also announced for
the Android-powered OUYA microconsole. Team
Tripleslash had Magnetic By Nature, Juicy Beast showed
off Toto Temple Deluxe, while Team2Bit had the
intriguingly named Reagan Gorbachev. Ouya fans also
got a glimpse of Thralled (Thralled Team) and So Many
Me (Extend Interactive).
With 826 games and counting now available for the
superb-value system, Ouya has something for everyone.
Grand Theft Auto V coming to next gen
One of the big stories of E3 was the news that Rockstar is
bringing its 30-million selling mega blockbuster to Xbox
One, PS4 and PC later in 2014.
While no specific release date has been revealed as yet,
the enhanced next gen versions will radically improve the
game’s visuals, with better draw distances, finer texture
detail, higher resolution, as well as more varied weather
effects, and new wildlife and vegetation.
