FEBRUARY BULLETIN GOD BLESS AMERICA! Happy February to
FEBRUARY BULLETIN GOD BLESS AMERICA! Happy February to all the Sweetheart Auxiliary members! January flew by and now it’s time push forward with our mission. I hope everyone that has been sick is starting to feel better. The flu has been ramped and the snow made travel to Louisville for Winter Conference impossible for several of our members. We missed each and every one that could not attend. MEMBERSHIP! MEMBERSHIP! MEMBERSHIP! Need I say more. We need every unit member to start looking around and renewing and recruiting. I know units have been working the oratorical contest. I sincerely hope each unit it working on girls state also. If you need any information on girls state you can call Diane Spencer or Virginia Hobbs and they can help. The information is also on our website and on the legion website. Please get into all the schools and even into homeschools. This is a fantastic opportunity for high school juniors. It doesn’t matter what program of the American Legion Auxiliary you are working on, please remember to track your hours and the amount of money you spend. This information needs to be reported. I am attaching the tracking sheet for hours and money for each member to use and the year‐end impact numbers to send in. I am also attaching the same information for each unit. If you have any questions, please give me a call or e‐mail me. Spring Conference will be in Florence Kentucky April 17‐18, 2015 at the Hilton Cincinnati Airport. I hope to see as many members there as possible. Our National Southern Division Vice‐President Sue Heil will be in attendance. Remember that we are all working for the same goals. Our Veterans, their families and our community. Let’s work together and make our organization strong. I look forward to seeing each and every one of you this year. God Bless America Lana Goley Department President [email protected] 1063 S. Beauchamp Rd Russellville, KY 42276 270‐725‐5848 February Membership Bulletin
We missed many of you at Winter Conference. While weather and illness kept quite a few away, the membership
awards were quite long and that's G R E A T !!!!, because that means everyone is working hard on membership. Just a
note that with your awards, there is a list with which units in the district have paid or not paid their assessments. If they
were not paid, you will not receive any awards until they are paid. So please try and get them sent in. If you think they
were paid, you may contact Jennifer Mullins, our secretary, for follow-up. Now is the time for getting down to the bare
bones of membership -- contacting those members who have not renewed and get them enticed to remain members
and send in dues. If they have fallen on hard times, maybe offer assistance in the form of delivering a meal, shoveling
snow, even some general conversation and/or paying their dues. Maybe someone in the unit will volunteer to pick up
their dues as a gift. Maybe a member would volunteer to contact members. Asking is usually the key to getting
members involved. The personal touch reaps great rewards and commitment.
Goal/Milestone Alert!!!!!! For any unit that makes either 100% in renewal or total by April 15th, will receive a $50 cash
award to be used by the unit for membership or any program of the auxiliary. These will be paid by check at
Convention in June. Remember assessments need to be paid to be able to receive any awards. In addition, if you
attend Spring Conference, anyone from the units that achieve that milestone, will get some Apple Pie........that will be
apple pie of your choice by the way....... So the bell has rang, the gate is open and the race is on towards 100% ---Lana's Apple Pie award
. Let's do it!!!!!! If 100% if a bit of a stretch, then there is the normal milestone of 85% for
Total by April 15th. Looking forward to see what goals you can make.......
Ok new on the list, At Spring Conference, we will be having a "Spread the Mission: Elevator Speech" Contest. So start
working on your 30 to 60 second elevator speech..... An elevator speech is a quick and informative way to introduce the
mission of The American Legion Family to someone unfamiliar with the organization. Tips: Wear your Auxiliary
emblem/clothing and that will usually prompt a question. or Begin asking a question, to gauge their familiarity with us.
Keep message concise and engaging. Be positive and reflect your passion. If possible have material available to pass
out. (You can print brochures off the website: alaforveterans.org) Pick one thing you are passionate about, which helps
make it personal for you and enticing to them. So start practicing today. A prize will be awarded to the first place.
Rules include (more to come for the official rules at conference): Must not exceed 1 minute 10 seconds. Points
deducted for exceeding. There will be a timer. Random anonymous judges will be selected in from the attendees
(these judges will not be responsible for the time limitation). We will randomly draw the order and you will be
randomly selected throughout the day to maximize the suddenness of a real elevator speech. Love to see some good
suggestions!!!! Let's make this fun and exciting!!!!!
Reminders:
1. Assessments need to be paid in order to receive Awards.
2. Remember to work on your rejoins. i.e. members who have not renewed for over 2 years.
3. Remember to recruit female veterans as Dept and National has waived their 1st year fees (even some units).
4. Check out kyamlegionaux.org to see recent newsletters and also the membership packet of information.
5. Please send those collected dues asap. i.e. don't hold membership.
6. Remember positivity and open arms in recruiting and working with prospects and members.
7. As in the previous newsletters, if any of you would like to share some of your unit’s successful recruiting strategies, it will be put in an
newsletter. They can helpful for other units to see what is working. It may spark new ideas from them. You can email them, (see the email
below), text me, or send thru the mail (78 W Southgate Ave, Ft. Thomas KY 41075). Please contact any of us with any questions/concerns.
Remember, Red White and Blue, Membership is for me and you. A member a day keeps us away!!!
We got SPIRIT yes we do, We got SPIRIT, How about YOU???????

February Bulletin
Hello, ladies! It was good to see those of you who were able to
attend Winter Conference. I hope that those of you who were
unable to attend due to illness are on the way to a speedy
recovery, and that those who could not travel due to the weather
kept warm and safe.
This month will be the Washington, D.C., Conference. It takes
place February 22-25. I hope some of you will be able to attend. It
is an educational experience, as well as the chance to advocate
for our veterans. If you are planning to attend and have not
already informed me, please e-mail me.
Please, fellow Auxiliary members, continue to contact both your
state and national representatives about the issues that the
Legion supports. Our voices need to be heard!!! Be sure to send
me copies of any responses you receive.
Thank you for all you do. God bless America!

COMMUNITY SERVICE – LISA D. NORVELL CHAIRMAN
1) The reporting year for Kentucky began on May 1, 2014, and ends on April 30, 2015. Our
Units are expected to 1) Complete their Unit Year-End Impact Numbers Report and send it to
their District President no later than April 15, 2015; and 2) Send their Year-End Narrative
Reports (with pictures and newspaper articles) to the Department Community Service Chairman,
no later than May 1, 2015.
2) Your narrative should tell a story about what the Unit accomplished throughout the
year. Your “stories” should include details about the activity, i.e. what, where, when, why and
how. In addition, the narratives may be put in “bullet” format, one “bullet” per activity. As it is a
Community Service activity/project, it should also include the word “community” somewhere in
the narrative. This shows that 1) The Unit invited other organizations to join them in community
service projects for mission-related projects and activities; or 2) The members of the Unit worked
with other organizations on service projects so that people would recognize the Auxiliary’s local
efforts.
3) Involve ALL the members of your committee in gathering information from the
Members. You can’t do it alone. If reports are not coming in as expected, ask your committee
members to contact the District/County Presidents and ask them for information. They “should”
know what is going on in their Communities with Service activities/projects.
All report must include:
·
What was the number of volunteer hours completed for Community Service
activities/projects?
·
How much money was spent on Community Service activities/projects during the
administrative year?
·
What was the value of in-kind donations received for Community Service
activities/projects during the administrative year?
·
How many Walk, Run & Roll events were conducted? How much money was raised?
·
What types of community service activities/projects were done in your Unit? And
approximately how many people were reached.
4) And finally, the Units are encouraged to compete for awards at both the Department and
National level. Four years ago, a national committee chairman was asked what she looked for
when she reviewed the narratives submitted for awards. She said that she was not concerned
about spelling, punctuation or grammar; and that she was more interested in the “story.” Because
she received so many narratives to judge, she made a list to check off the number of objectives
that were met based on the National Plan of Action. She also looked for activities that were
different and out of the ordinary. In addition, she mentioned that we should include both the Unit
city and number in our narratives. Otherwise, how will people know who we are and where we
are located when we are mentioned at the National Convention? For example, we should say
Perryville Unit 301 from the Department of Kentucky (using city and unit number) rather than
our proper name, Battlefield. Unit 301.
Listed below are the awards that are available. Please make sure that each award entry includes
