Lady Express Wheelwatch/Deckhand: mid-June

Lady Express – Wheel watch / Deckhand / Narrator
The pay rate for this position is $13.00 per hour.
The term of employment is June 14th to September 15th.
This is a brief description of the position:
1. The shift is from 7 a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m. on the Lady Express
2. …..must be dependable. Absenteeism or tardiness is not acceptable. The boats are on set schedules. It is
imperative that all staff is responsible, on time and dependable.
3. …..must be able to handle freight and luggage. Each piece of luggage or freight will average 15 to 50 lbs in
weight. Please state on your application if you have any type of physical limitation that would keep you
from performing this duty (such as a bad back, knee, arms etc).
4. …..tying and untying the vessel at landings.
5. …..assist the Captain in providing narration at designated points along the lake. A script will be provided
that can be read as needed. This is a high public contact area. You must enjoy this type of contact and be
receptive to questions. For the right person this is an enjoyable part of the job.
6. …..preferred that the person holding this position has experience in First Aid / CPR. Prior experience on
boats/vessel is also preferred.
7. …..must keep a clean appearance and follow the dress code. Any dark colored pant or knee length shorts are
acceptable. Uniform shirts will be provided to you.
8. …..must be able to keep and maintain a positive attitude toward all passengers and co-workers.
9. …..must be able to follow orders given by the Captain, and strictly observe all rules and regulations in
regards to the operations of the vessel.
The following is what would be expected on a normal day:
 Assist in loading freight and luggage in Chelan and at all ports. The freight from Chelan can be substantial,
so it is important that a person be physically fit and not have past injuries that would be inflamed by this
duty.
 Collect tickets if instructed to by the Captain, and assist passengers as they board.
 Sell tickets to passengers if instructed and trained by Captain.
 Perform engine checks and document readings as instructed by the Captain.
 Provide a welcome and appropriate narration as instructed by Captain (shared task).
 Take time behind the wheel while underway (not landings) after trained.
 Assist passengers in disembarking and assist in unloading freight and luggage at all ports.
 There is an hour and a half layover in Stehekin. After unloading all freight, luggage and performing any
other need tasks as instructed by the Captain, a lunch break is taken.
 Depart for down lake and follow most of the same listed above for the down lake trip.
 Upon arrival at the Chelan dock, assist the Captain with fueling the boat and any other assigned tasks, such
as cleaning and maintaining the engine room and wheelhouse.
