We recommend Harel Yedidim Insurance Company that offers students (including foreign and visiting students) several insurance plans. Please see their site: www.yedidim_health.co.il If you are interested in purchasing the insurance through Harel Yedidim, please contact Talia Algazi at: [email protected] for more details. Please complete and sign the HEALTH INSURANCE DECLARATION attached at the beginning of the document. If you are insured at your home country, please contact your insurance company and check if your insurance is valid in Israel too. 6 Student Visa Student A/2 Visa All students are required to obtain an A/2 student visa from the Israel Embassy or Consulate in their country of residence prior to arrival to Israel. Students should contact their local Israel Embassy or Consulate for instructions on how to request a student visa and should allow at least one month for processing the visa request. It is recommended that students request a multiple-entry student visa, to simplify the process of entering and exiting the country during their studies. The student’s foreign passport must be valid for the full period of the visa. It is the individual student’s responsibility to renew his or her visa. Married students should consult with the Embassy or Consulate regarding obtaining visas for members of their immediate family, as well. Students who are already in Israel when accepted to the program must consult with the Ministry of the Interior (Misrad Hap’nim) regarding whether or not they are required to leave the country to obtain a valid A/2 student visa. The Ministry of the Interior is located at 1 Shlomzion HaMalka St., Jerusalem, and its hours of operation are 8:00 A.M. – 13:00 P.M., Sunday through Thursday (except Wednesdays). Oleh (New Immigrant) Visa Persons who are entitled to enter Israel under the Law of Return qualify for this visa. Persons who enter Israel on an Oleh visa or who switch their status to that of Oleh while in Israel should obtain information from the Israeli government authorities concerning the obligations and benefits of this status. New immigrants may work, obtain income tax and customs concessions, and be recruited to do military service. Oleh students may be eligible for financial aid from the Student Authority. It is recommended that students planning to request Oleh status consult an advisor at the Student Authority or one of the immigrant associations. While Israel recognizes the right of persons to hold dual citizenship, not all countries do; therefore, one should check thoroughly the laws of his/her native country. For 7 further information and advice, contact your program advisor or the Student Authority: 15 Hillel St., Jerusalem, Tel. 02-6214555. Israeli Citizens and/or Students with an Israeli Parent If you are an Israeli citizen, were born in Israel, or have at least one parent who is an Israeli citizen, you MUST contact your local Israel Consulate before departure. The Consulate staff can clarify and formalize your current citizenship status, give information about deferment from military service, issue appropriate travel documents, and advise you regarding visas. Bring all documents related to Israeli citizenship and your letter of admission to the Hebrew University to your meeting at the Consulate. Israeli citizens eligible for military service must obtain an official letter of deferment for at least six months by presenting an official letter of acceptance from the Hebrew University. In Jerusalem, contact the Army Induction Office, Tel: 02-5694472, with questions or problems. It is critical that you take care of these matters before you arrive in Israel. If you do not do so prior to entering Israel, you may be unable to depart Israel until the issues are resolved. You will be solely responsible for your personal situation and any costs involved. We highly recommend that you exercise extreme caution regarding these matters 8 Arrival Ben Gurion International Airport is located about an hour’s drive from the Hebrew University. Shuttle taxi: We advise you take a shuttle taxi (“Nesher”or other van taxi service) from the airport to your destination in Jerusalem. The regular price between the airport and any location in Jerusalem is approximately 100-150 NIS (about $25-$30) and they operate around the clock. Buses: Buses are a cheaper option than shuttle taxies, but the ride is much longer, and they do not operate at night, weekends and holidays. The day that you arrive on campus, please instruct the taxi driver to drop you off at the "Maiersdorf Faculty Club". You will then take the elevator to the 3 rd floor lobby and exit the building. The Law Faculty building will be across the path on your left. Please proceed to Talia Algazi's office, room 117 in the Law Faculty building. Please ensure that you arrive on a date when university is in session. The academic calendar can be found on P. 14. The dorm offices are open Sunday to Thursday from 8:30 – 14:30. The "Student Village" address is: 2 Lohemei Ha'Getaot Street, Jerusalem. 9 Rothberg International School Established in 1955, the Rothberg International School at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem offers the oldest and largest undergraduate study abroad program in Israel.
