Roddy MacLeod MBE
Festival Director of Piping Live! 2016
Welcome to the 13th year
of Piping Live! We have
put together a fantastic
programme and this year’s
festival is scheduled to attract
over 40,000 spectators to
more than 150 events over 7 days.
The festival uses a number of fantastic venues throughout
the city. George Square will host our daily Pipe Band
performances and Music in the Square, as well as our Pipers’
Market. At The National Piping Centre our Street Café will be
open Monday – Friday with an abundance of top quality acts.
This year we welcome a bigger venue for the Pipe Idol final,
and the new event the Pipe Major Alasdair Gillies Memorial
Recital Challenge which will both be in the Strathclyde Suite
at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. We will also be presenting a
fantastic concert featuring RURA and the Anxo Lorenzo Trio
at Drygate Brewery, using this venue for the first time.
A huge thanks to all of our sponsors, funders and supporters
without whom Piping Live! would not be possible. All that
remains to say is that I look forward to seeing you all at this
year’s festival and I hope you enjoy yourselves.
