OFFICE HOURS
The Main Office, Attendance, Deans, and Guidance/Counseling offices will be open from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. for
students, parents, and community members.
Parents/Guardians should drop off students no earlier than 6:45 a.m. Classes end every day at 3 p.m. (except
early release days and designated testing days). Students should be picked up or need to exit the building by
3:30 p.m. unless they are participating in a school-related function. Please be aware that supervision is provided
30 minutes prior to classes and 30 minutes following the final bell. For security reasons, students should not
arrive before supervision is provided or stay after supervision ends.
LUNCH NOTES
Students who have balances left in their lunch account at the end of this school year will have that balance
carried over to next year’s lunch account. If your student is changing schools, their balance will follow them to
their new school (exceptions: Thornton High, and Northglenn High).
However, if you would like to have the balance of your student’s lunch account refunded to you, please contact
the kitchen manager at your school. The last day for SENIORS to receive refunds will be their last day of
school. The last day for remaining students to receive refunds is May 22 by 12:00 p.m. Be aware that your
school office cannot do refunds for the Lunch Program; please see or call your kitchen manager for a refund.
You must come in to pick up your refund as a signature is required to release the money. Refunds cannot be
mailed out except under special circumstances.
We have sincerely enjoyed having your student eat with us this year, and we look forward to serving your
student nutritious meals again next year. Thank you for your support of the lunch program!

FROM THE COUNSELING OFFICE
Let’s talk about . . . letting go. The following is some light hearted advice regarding the transitions and
challenges you and your student may experience as they move from junior to senior to college. The information
is paraphrased from the book Letting Go: A Parent’s Guide to Understanding the College Years, Karen Levin
Coburn and Madge Lawrence Treeger, 2003.
 Enjoy all of the celebrations – hold off on stressing about the changes to come.
 Recognize your child’s conflicting emotions – it may be a sign of their ambivalence to this transitional
time.
 They are driving you crazy so they can say “goodbye” and you can say “it’s about time.”
 Summer is a time to say goodbye to friends, you will see less and less of your child.
 Make a financial plan and discuss expectations; who is paying for what.
 Teach your child to be a savvy credit card user; or the credit companies will gladly do it for you.
 Rather than focusing on grades, focus on what they want to accomplish academically.
 Decide how you want to communicate and when; try to avoid the “electronic umbilical cord.”
 Be a coach instead of a “helicopter” parent; read all the correspondence from the school so you know
which resource to suggest when you get that panic call asking for a rescue (i.e. health service, career
center, advisor, tutor, dean, financial office).
 Give your child a heads up when things are changing at home; generally they want to do all of the
changing and want home to stay the same and be their anchor.
 Think twice before starting a sentence with “When I went to college…” – times they are a changin’.
 Send care packages; they will want you to send money, but nothing says lovin’ like a new tooth brush
and a pair of socks to celebrate the upcoming holiday.
 When they return, and eventually they will return, re-negotiate expectations.
 It takes flexibility and communication to find common ground with this new relationship.
 College is a time of exploration: with their hair, their friends, their politics, their philosophies, their food
habits.
 Pick your battles and find a sense of humor.
 Realize that 18 years of parenting has established a foundation that will accompany them across the
miles.
Last, but not least…
 For your own sanity, talk with other parents who are going through the same thing.
Another article to check out can be found on the web at:

go of your college student” into a search engine). This article has some specific suggestions for different
situations.

the College Room throughout the year. Dates and times vary and will be announced in the bulletin and
newsletter.
REMINDER TO SENIORS
Seniors will not be allowed to go through check-in for graduation and receive their cap and gown if they have
outstanding balances on their accounts. Return textbooks, uniforms, etc. on time to avoid fines. Don’t wait
until the last minute to get all fines and fees up to date. Fine lists are posted in the display case by the
auditorium and outside the Business Window. If you have questions, please call Julie Rodriquez in the
Bookkeeping Office at 720-972-6732.

NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER
Students who plan on participating in NCAA Division I or II college athletics must register with the NCAA
Eligibility Center. To register, students will visit the website www.eligibilitycenter.org, where they will
develop a login and password during their junior or senior year of high school. Once students have registered
with the Eligibility Center, they must request a transcript to be sent from Legacy High School to the Eligibility
Center. This is done electronically via the www.eligibilitycenter.org website. Once students request the
transcript via the Eligibility Center website, they must also go to their Naviance account and create a transcript
request to the NCAA. (More information about this process can be found on the Counseling Website.) Students
must also have their ACT scores sent to the NCAA directly from ACT; scores are not accepted by the NCAA if
they are sent from LHS. To do this, students should visit www.actstudent.org and have their scores sent to the
NCAA (school code #9999). It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the classes they are taking will meet the
outlined NCAA needs. Mr. Romano is available to assist students in the process, but cannot guarantee that a
student will be cleared by the NCAA. Through the Eligibility Center website, students can see a complete list
of all approved courses by looking up each school they have attended and reading its 48H Form.
MOVING?
Are you planning to move and attend a new school? If so, you will need to withdraw from Legacy High School
prior to leaving. Please contact the Records Office at 720-972-6712, to make arrangements to have withdrawal
grades, transcripts, and immunization records necessary to enroll at your new school.
UPDATE FAMILY INFORMATION
It is imperative that we have updated, accurate student contact information. Parents must identify someone who
can act as a guardian for their student in case of an emergency. Keeping student records up-to-date assures that
we have correct telephone numbers when contacting parents and correct addresses when mailing information
home. In case of severe injury or illness, we will call an ambulance at the parent’s/guardian’s expense, if we are
not able to reach the parent/guardian.
COLLEGE AND CAREER EXPLORATION:
Summer is a great time to surf the web for ideas that will help you plan your future. The following sites are a
good place to start looking for clues to what you want to be when you grow up.
LEGACY COUNSELING WEB PAGE
Go to www.legacy.adams12.org. Double click on “Counseling Department” on the left-hand side. You will
find information about the Legacy Counseling Department, colleges, scholarships, testing registration and
preparation, Naviance and career planning, NCAA requirements, college visits, graduation requirements, and
important information for seniors. Check this site regularly, as the website will continue to be improved and
updated. Make sure to go to the “Resources” section and explore the various sites.
www.CollegeInColorado.org
This site is a student services website representing the colleges and universities of Colorado. It is a
comprehensive and user friendly site regarding four-year high school planning, state and national college
searches, college applications, financial aid help, and free college money – COF: Colorado Opportunities
Fund.
Coming this fall:
OUT-OF-STATE COLLEGE FAIRS

College Fair at Denver Mart on Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
COLLEGES THAT CHANGE LIVES
This will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2015, 7 p.m., at the Denver Convention Center in Rooms 600 and 700.
Go to www.ctcl.org for more information. “The CTCL schools are a group of distinctive colleges and
universities that get students heavily involved in cooperative rather than competitive learning, and a faculty of
scholars devoted to helping young people develop their powers, and mentors who often become their valued
friends” – Loren Pope author of Colleges That Change Lives.
What should I do at a college fair? (Information from http://www.collegefairsdenver.org/)
Be sure to review the list of colleges attending and check the schools that interest you. Visit with college
representatives and consider the following questions:




Describe your admission criteria. What are my chances of admission?
What are your college entrance test requirements? When are your deadlines?
Must I apply separately for financial aid?
What types of scholarships does your school offer and what are the criteria? How
do I apply?



Which departments or programs do you consider outstanding?
Why would a Colorado student come to your school?
What percentage of students who start as first year students, graduate in four
years? Five years? What percentage transfer to other colleges?
