2.4 hours at LeMans Karting
Sunday March 29, 2015
Schedule:
Registration Opens: 1pm
Drivers Meeting/Draw for karts: 3pm
Qualifying: 3:30pm
Race Start: 5pm
Checkered Flag: 7:24pm
Team Entry Fee:
$240 per team (3 to 6 drivers per team) Limited to the first 12 team entries. Only one “Pro”
driver per team
FORMAT:
Drivers Meeting:
All drivers must be present. If any driver is not present, then that team will start at the rear.
Qualifying:
Each driver will get two five minute qualifying/practice sessions. Each driver’s single fastest lap
from the two sessions will be recorded as their “lap time”. Kart assignment for
qualifying/practice will be randomly from the pit lane. Example: The first driver in the queue
will get the first kart in the pit lane. The second driver in the queue will get the second kart in
the pit lane. You may or may not be in the same kart for your second session.
Each team will be assigned a qualifying time that is the average of the fastest times from all of
that teams drivers.
Race Start:
Each team will be assigned the kart number they drew in the drivers meeting. If that kart is no
longer available then they will get the first alternate kart. The start of the race will be “Le
Mans” style where the starting driver runs across the track at the wave of the green flag. One
team member may be at the kart to keep the kart from rolling and to assist with the seat belt.
The assisting person must stay to the rear of the kart. The assisting person may not push the
kart or step to the side of the kart. If either of those infractions take place the team will get a
stop-and-go penalty.
Driver Changes:
Which of each team’s driver starts the race and the order that each teams drivers rotate into
the kart is at the team’s discretion. There will be no allowed driver changes during the first 10
minutes or the last 10 minutes of the race. The pit lane may be “closed” during this time. The
pit lane will also be closed during yellow or red flag conditions. If the team has already entered
pit lane when the yellow flag comes out, they are allowed to complete the driver change
without penalty. They will restart the race wherever they have blended in when exiting pit lane,
but not in front of the race leader. Each driver entering pit lane must stop completely before
the designated stop line or stop sign. This is the driver’s responsibility to know where this line is
and how slow he needs to be to keep from going past it. Stopping past the stop line will result
in a “Stop-and-go” penalty to be served after the new driver has returned to the track. “Blowing
through” the stop box will result in a 10 second penalty to be served after the new driver has
returned to the track. Two “Blow through” infractions from any one team will result in
disqualification.
Fuel Consumption:
The karts may or may not be able to run the entire distance. The variable affecting this are
throttle usage by each driver and number of possible caution laps ran. Each team will be
allowed to perform one kart change if they deem it necessary. It is up to each team to
determine if they want to do a kart change and when they do it. If a team runs their kart out of
fuel, they will NOT get credit for lost laps. The driver must stay in the kart until a safety marshal
has attended them.
Kart Changes:
Voluntary:
There will be one allowed voluntary kart change due to fuel consumption. The timing of this
kart change is at each team’s discretion. The kart change will occur during a driver change. The
process will be as follows: The team will notify Race Control that they wish to do a kart change.
A safety marshal will start the first kart in the alternate kart line and will assist in getting the
seat and belt settings to the teams liking. Only one team member is allowed in the pit lane
during this adjustment process. When the team is satisfied with the seat and belt setting they
may call their current driver in to start the driver change. The replacement driver will be
“race-ready” and standing next to the replacement kart. The current driver will enter the pit
lane following all normal driver change rules and procedures. He must pull all of the way to the
front of the pit lane before exiting the kart. Once he has stood up with both feet on the
catwalk, the replacement driver can enter the replacement kart. The former driver can assist
the replacement driver as normal. The replaced kart will be refueled and put back into the
alternate kart line.
Mechanical Failure:
Kart changes will be allowed without penalty for mechanical breakdowns but not kart
performance. If a team representative believes their kart has suffered or is suffering from a
bona-fide mechanical failure, they can request a kart change on those grounds. The team
representative must notify Race Control that they have a mechanical failure and want an
alternate kart. A yellow flag will be displayed slowing the field and then the red flag will be
displayed near the pit entrance. The broken kart will be swapped out on track for an alternate
kart and the same driver will restart the race in the same position he was in at the displaying of
the yellow flag. If it is determined that there is not a bona-fide mechanical malfunction, then
that team will be penalized one lap. If the mechanical malfunction has been caused by driver
error then the team will be penalized one lap. There will be no credit given for lost positions or
lost laps prior to the display of the yellow flag.
Warnings, Black Flags, and Penalties:
All warnings and penalties are on the kart or team and not the individual driver. What this
means is that all warnings and penalties carry over to each successive driver. The number of
warnings does not “reset” when a driver change occurs.
Each team is allowed two warnings for minor offenses. The offenses do NOT have to be the
same to add warnings. Example: One offense of bumping into another kart and one offense of
bumping the barriers is TWO offenses. On the third minor offense the kart will be black flagged
to serve a 10 second penalty on the pit lane. Any major offense causes an immediate black flag
and 10 second penalty served on pit lane. Each subsequent infraction, minor or major, will
result in a black flag and 10 second penalty to be served in the pit lane. On the third black flag
penalty (not warning) the driver will serve a 1 (one) minute penalty, which will be served on pit
lane. Subsequent offenses may result in disqualification.
A driver may receive a black flag for an equipment violation that does not result in any
additional penalty. If the driver can correct the equipment violation without pitting, the black
flag will be withdrawn. If the driver has to pit to correct the violation, then the driver can exit
the pits as soon as the violation is corrected. The driver will not get credit for positions or laps
lost while correcting equipment violations.
No driver or kart changes may be performed during a black flag pit stop.
End of Race:
We will display the white flag to the leader at the start-finish once the race has less than 2
minutes to go. Once the white flag has been displayed then the next flag will end the race. If
there are no incidents, that next flag will be the checkered flag displayed to the race leader and
effective at the start finish line. If there is an incident the next flag will be yellow or red (as
needed) and the finishing order will be the running order when the red or yellow flag was
displayed. (The order will be frozen in the race control computer)
Rules:
All standard LeMans Karting race rules apply with the exceptions of the procedures outlined
above.
