Special Meeting Minutes
March 26, 2015
1. Vice Chair Young called the meeting to order at 6:38 PM.
2. Roll call taken and quorum established with 7 members present.
Members present: Michelle Downes, Karyn Linn, Brenda Lisenby, Hongtao Liu, Sybil
Madison-Boyd, Angela Sims and Stacey Young.
Members absent: Brendan Daley, Noree Golden, Eric Hayes and Camille Robinson.
3. Motion – A motion was made by Downes to approve agenda. Madison-Boyd seconds the
motion. Motion passes with 7 votes in favor, 0 opposed, 0 abstentions.
4. Motion – A motion was made by Lisenby to approve the March 5 regular meeting minutes.
Liu seconds the motion. Motion passes with 7 votes in favor, 0 opposed, 0 abstentions.
5. Principal’s report – Principal Sims distributed a written report prior to the LSC meeting (see
official record for the report). Highlights from her verbal report follow.

The 2015-16 new student list has been received. An open house is scheduled
March 30, 2015.

Garden Club kicked off on 3/25.

Girls’ spring soccer program is underway.

Zumba classes are being held on Thursdays at 6:00. Proceeds will go to gymnasium
improvements.

A peace room was established, with student input, in room 208. Half the room is the
Lenart Lion dollar store and the other half is the peace room, a restorative place to
reflect or hold peace circle.

Based on questions from LSC members, Principal Sims briefly discussed the teacher
review and mediation process. As part of the review process, teachers are rated as
distinguished, proficient, basic and unsatisfactory. They are expected to show
growth after three years of teaching and before tenure is established. Student
growth and test data are now being factored into the teacher review process.

The school is working on and looking at best practices for differentiation. Lenart is
focusing on best practices that make the most sense for gifted learners.

7. New Business
a. Approval of internal accounts – none; no new information since 3/5 meeting.
b. Approval of budget transfers (if necessary) - None
c. Approval of asset disposal (if necessary) - None
d. Approval of new fundraising initiatives (if necessary)
Principal Sims shared Square 1 Art as a fundraising option for the school.
Square 1 Art uses student artwork to create gifts such as stickers, magnets,
mugs and many other options. Lenart receives 35% sales; if more than 45% of
school population participates school gets 40% of sales.
Motion- A motion was made by Lisenby to engage with Square 1 Art to host a
school-wide fundraiser. Madison-Boyd seconds the motion. Motion passes with
7 votes in favor, 0 opposed, 0 abstentions.
e. Fundraising report from the Lenart Parent Community Group
Young removed herself from the role of vice chair to share information items
about LPCG activities.

Paint weekend is scheduled for 4/24-4/25.

LPCG will purchase shirts for the 8th grade students for their class trip.

Parent Night Out is scheduled for 4/18.

LPCG will explore hosting a golf outing at the South Shore 9-hole golf
course. LSC members raised the idea of engaging the Lenart golf team to
assist with the outing.

LPCG will explore hosting a social outing at Ping Tom Park.

Madison-Boyd raised the idea of hosting parent events in neighborhoods
throughout the city. This would provide an opportunity for existing parents
to engage with new parents.

8. Public Participation – Parent of 4th grade student with clothing company presented
options for Lenart branded gym uniforms and spirit wear. Clothing is high quality and can
be available for spring spirit week. Custom orders can be accommodated. There were
no objections to the school or the LPCG working with the company to provide Lenart
branding clothing options for purchase by students and parents. Any proceeds will
benefit the school.
9. The next LSC meeting will be April 16 at 3:00 PM at Lenart Regional Gifted Center, 8101
S LaSalle, Chicago, IL 60620. Agenda items may include budget transfers; computer
equipment with the Microsoft XP operating system that is no longer supported;
equipment needs for Computer Science for All Initiative.
10. Motion – A motion was made by Downes to adjourn the meeting. Liu seconds the
motion. Motion passes with 7 votes in favor, 0 opposed, 0 abstentions. The meeting
adjourned at 7:41 PM.
