The committees working on presentations for the convention are thinking outside the box. There will be: *Information from National Headquarters about proposed Amendment changes *Convention-themed skits to amuse you *Speakers to inform and motivate you *Youth of the Year, A.C.E. & Excel Club awards luncheon *Business: board meetings and voting on new officers and directors *Candidate Forum for Exchangites running for National President-Elect and Region 5 Vice President *Great food and lots of time to socialize at meals and the hospitality room *Saturday night banquet with installation of new officers and awards including Texas District banner patches, scrapbook, newsletters & Exchangite of the Year *Sunday morning: One Nation Under God program Spend some time in TylerTHE ROSE CAPITAL OF AMERICA! Charming brick streets. Antique shops and unique specialty stores. Crystal-clear lakes. Challenging golf courses and scenic campgrounds. Tyler, Texas has something for everyone . 2 Texas District Club Activities Alexandria- Conducting their student of the month program and preparing for the Community HealthWorx BBQ Spirit of Bossier-Does many projects with the American Legion in both the youth and Americanism areas. Lake Highlands- Continues to promote the youth and all activities in the area, as well as Family Compass. They are doing a candidate forum this month. Noon Garland-Assisted the city in the Heritage Celebration with the posting of American flags. They are wearing blue for Child Abuse Prevention and beginning work on GLEE-Garland LaborDay Exchange Event. Gatesville-Day of the Child program this week-end, followed on Monday by the Book of Golden Deeds Banquet. They are working on signing up riders for the Fire Ant Ride in June. Killeen-Sponsors and supports Excel clubs in three of the high schools in Killeen. Participates in the Meals on Wheels program and other projects. San Antonio-A quiet club that has some really interesting speakers. Noon Copperas Cove-Very active with programs for the youth and Americanism. Sponsor of an Excel club. Richardson-Signing up members and friends for the Wild Flower Festival. They do a library book exchange in assisted living facilities on a quarterly schedule. Murphy-Just had a successful Chili Cook-off. The club plans to dedicate a Freedom Shrine in May. The club regularly posts American flags at city hall on holidays or for special events. Clubs which have reported their programs and projects to National Headquarters have received the NSA – National Service Award are: Copperas Cove, Garland, Gatesville, Killeen and Murphy. This is as of the March 31st report. New Club Building The first order of business in the By-Laws (National, District & Local) is to build new Exchange Clubs. If you have an idea for a new club but don’t know to go about it, talk to your Division Director or Volunteer Field Representatives. They are more than happy to help. 3 District Awards Youth of the Year and A.C.E. Scholarships: Club candidates for Youth of the Year and A.C.E. submissions need to be turned in to Javier Solis by May 11, 2015. Javier can be reached at [email protected] Exchangite of the Year, Outstanding Citizen and All American Volunteer of the Year candidates need to be sent to District President Dick Young by May 11, 2015. [email protected] Be sure to report the club’s and the member’s individual volunteer works to National Headquarters on their web site. The club will receive patches and stars from National, and also patches from District. Bring your club’s scrapbook to District convention.
