Sessional Deputy Leader – Edinburgh Playscheme Job description Hours: 8.45am – 3.15pm each day Place of Work: Edinburgh Dates of Employment: Easter Holiday Sessional Deputy Leader opportunities are available to candidates who; Have previously worked at Lothian Autistic Society (LAS) Playschemes and received exemplary evaluations on their work performance. Have proven supervisory experience in another setting involving children/young people. Or Training: New Deputy Leaders will be expected to attend an additional training session specific to this role. Dates and times will be confirmed nearer the time. New Deputy Leaders may also find it useful to attend the playscheme training dates. If requested by the office, it is essential that candidates make themselves available to attend this. Date for the Easter Training programme is week beginning 30th March 2015 Person Specification: Essentials: Candidates must Be eligible to work in the UK Have received exemplary evaluations on their work performance at previous playschemes or have proven supervisory experience in another setting involving children/young people. Be capable of the physically demanding tasks required of the job. Have a good basic education in literacy and numeracy. Be able to evidence leadership skills and abilities. Have a proven ability to support others. Show a proven ability to work as part of a team. Be able to communicate clearly and effectively. Be able to make decisions quickly and confidently. Have the ability to deal with challenging behaviour. Have the ability to deal with challenging situations. Be capable of completing admin/paperwork tasks promptly and accurately. Be enthusiastic and energetic. Have the ability to motivate others. Display a willingness to learn and get involved. Be supportive and non-judgemental. Desirables: Candidates may Have a qualification / be in the process of achieving a qualification which is recognised by the SSSC at Support Worker level. Have previous experience working with children and young people on the autism spectrum. Have previous supervisory experience. Have the ability to swim. Job description: Deputy Leaders will Work alongside the Playscheme Leader to provide support to a small group of staff and young people. Possibly also be paired 1.1 or 2:1 with a child/young person with an Autism Spectrum Condition. Assist the Playscheme Leader to monitor pairings between staff and children using information available from the LAS Office. Step up to the role of Playscheme Leader in the absence of the regular Playscheme Leader. Establish warm and supportive relationships with the staff and volunteers in their group. Establish warm and supportive relationships with the children/young people in their group. Support and encourage new staff to reach their full potential. Ensure that the children/young people in their group are safe at all times. Assist the staff and children in their group where required while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of the group. Actively assist and engage the children and young people attending the playscheme to participate in the activities available; both in the venue and at external venues. Serve as a positive role model for the children and young people attending the playscheme. Encourage and support the formation/continuation of friendships between the children/young people. Help and support the children and young people attending the playscheme to get involved in imaginative play and enable them to enjoy new experiences. Be responsible for the belonging’s their child/young person brings to playscheme each day where applicable. Write positive and sensitive daily diary entries which will be sent home to parents at the end of each day. Report any incidents, accidents and other relevant information to the Playscheme Leader or Manager as soon as possible. Complete any relevant paperwork as and when required, promptly and accurately. Be aware of and adhere to the LAS policies and procedures. Be available to attend any pre or post playscheme meetings as required.
