Students are challenged to become adept problem-solvers and expand the breadth of their artistic technique and personal aesthetic. Awareness of art history and contemporary visual culture provides context for innovative practice. Visual literacy is fostered through handson coursework that demands original thought, stimulates critical thinking, and instills passion for the visual arts. So Many Ways to Become a Creative Professional t he Visual Arts—whether graphic design, illustration, video, animation, or web design—allows you to create work that will impact everything we see. It’s exciting. It’s challenging. And it’s fun. The Visual Communications program at Lyndon is a dynamic mix of graphic design and marketing courses that prepares graduates for a variety of career paths. In the final year, students design their own thesis project, complete loads of real projects for real clients, and graduate with a competitive portfolio and expertise in the newest technology. There is no portfolio requirement for admission into this program. A dynamic sequence of courses prepares our graduates to design and produce advertising and communications pieces for print media, multimedia, web, e-publishing, and packaging. Graphic designers create visual concepts—by hand or with computer software—to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate consumers. Many of these workers are employed in advertising, graphic design, prepress services, book design, desktop publishing, marketing, and corporate communications.
