FinTech seminars series (2) cum ASTRI Security Lab Launching Ceremony (5 May) Co-organised by Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP), the FinTech seminars series aim to share the knowledge and market insights of FinTech in terms of business, market and technology. While at Berkeley, he was a recipient of the UC Berkeley Alumni Scholarship, Unisys Scholarship and Cray Research Scholarship. He completed his Ph.D. degree in 1994 and became the first Ph.D. to graduate from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. From 1994 to 1998, Dr Lau was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. In 1995, he received a Teaching Appreciation Award from the School of Engineering. He received his tenure in 1998 at the Department. Currently, he is an Adjunct Professor of the University. From 1995 to 1996, Dr Lau was a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Integrated Systems at Stanford University. In 1999, Dr Lau started Perception Digital, a factory-less consumer electronics design house which specializes in design supply chain management and digital signal processing. The company went public in Hong Kong in 2010. Dr Lau, a major shareholder of the company, took up the roles of Chairman and CEO. In 2010 he also completed his EMBA degree at Kellogg-HKUST. Dr Lau is a recipient of the 10 Most Outstanding Young Persons in Hong Kong (2000), Young Industrialist Award (2005), and Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year (China Region, 2009). In 2010, he was bestowed an Honorary Fellowship at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. On a side note, Dr Lau was born in Hong Kong. He attended St. Joseph's College. He subsequently moved to the United States and graduated from Lowell High School in San Francisco. He was a member of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Panel of the HKSAR Government and is currently serving on the Copyright Tribunal Panel. Ms. Melissa C. Guzy, Managing Partner, Arbor Ventures Melissa Guzy is a Managing Partner of Arbor Ventures has more than 25 years of experience as an entrepreneur and as a venture investor. Prior to Arbor, Melissa was the Managing Director and head of VantagePoint Asia. In 2007, Melissa moved to Hong Kong to build VantagePoint's investment practice in the region, establishing offices in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai, and invested in early stage technology companies in both Asia and in Silicon Valley. Prior Investments include Finisar, NuCore (Mediatek), Pure Digital (Cisco), Oxford Semiconductor (PLX Technology), iWatt (Dialogics). Current board positions include InvestLab and Demyst.data. Prior to joining VantagePoint, Melissa cofounded and served as CEO of a VantagePoint portfolio company in the semiconductor market. Melissa attended Wellesley College and received a Master's degree in Finance from the University of Florida. Mr Alex T.W. Leung, Director of Information Security, ASTRI Alex Leung has over 16 years of information security consulting and security software development experience, served in organizations including Motorola, Freescale and Hong Kong Police Force. He enjoys ethically hacking software systems and helps clients to discern infrastructure vulnerabilities before the bad guys do. He has engaged in various penetration tests and helped clients defend against vulnerabilities such as unauthorized privilege escalation in Windows Servers, password stealing by mimikatz, data leakage due to Android’s addJavascriptInterface and DoS by “apache killer”. He currently serves as the Director of Information Security in ASTRI. Alex graduated from Cornell University in New York USA with Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics, and Master of Science in Applied Physics from Stanford University in California USA.
