STUDENT ACHIEVMENT
The ISTEP testing period will last just a little over two weeks
April 23-May 12th. It is especially important to do all we can to
keep our students healthy. In order to attend school, they must
not have any of the symptoms of fever, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Your child must be symptom and fever free for 24 hours before
returning to school. And remember, the best way to prevent
illness is through hand washing!
Third Grade Families-Look for information and results about
IREAD 3 that were sent home last week.
DATA to BRAG ABOUT Congratulations to Mrs. Nesbit’s third
graders for their hard work on their Geometry assessment!
100% of students passed this unit test! Way to go! Way to go to

LABYRINTH/PEACE GARDEN PROJECT
The Kids in Action Club is leading a Labyrinth/Peace Garden
Project for the front of Mary Castle. The students in Kids in
Action have been doing service projects in our community and
now they are giving back to our school. They will be breaking
ground on the Labyrinth next week and will work during club time
on Wednesdays with the help of student council. They will have a
big work day on Friday, May 1st that will include Kids in Action,
Student Council, Mrs. Ellis’ Class, Miss Miller’s class and more!
Labyrinths are thriving in schools because research shows that
they help students, deal with grief, solve problems, resolve
conflicts, build community and celebrate joyful events. Every
Mary Castle student will get to design a brick during COMPASS
class that will be placed into the Labyrinth. The Labyrinth/Peace
Garden will be dedicated to our school on May 20th from 3:005:00.
SERVICE LEARNING at an International School-Mary Castle
plans to build a Labyrinth and Peace Garden. On Earth Day, each
student of the COMPASS class painted a brick that will go in the
Labyrinth. That same day, our Kids in Action Club visited Joy’s
House (with some Student Council members) and painted some
bricks with their residents. The plants that are in the main
courtyard will be used for the Peace Garden led by Mrs. Ellis’
class, and Miss Miller’s class is adding a butterfly garden. We
have some Girl Scouts adding a flower garden led by Jenny
Guimont. The flagged area at the front of the school will be the
location. Public and Private Works have just approved all of this
for digging.

NEWS FROM THE NURSE
Please remember, the health clinic does not keep a stock supply
of medications. If your child gets frequent headaches or has
another condition which may require medication during school
hours, you must supply that medication in its original container
labeled with your child’s name and birth date. PLEASE DO NOT
SEND MEDICATIONS TO SCHOOL WITH YOUR CHILD. The
medication must be given to the school nurse by an adult. In
order for the nurse to administer medication to your child, a
permission form to medicate must be signed by the parent or
legal guardian. A copy of this form is available on our website
under Health Forms, or from the school nurse.
PARENTS OF CURRENT 5TH GRADERS:
It’s not too early to begin getting your child’s vaccinations for
next school year! All students entering 6th grade in the 20152016 school year will need to receive one meningococcal (MCV4)
vaccine and one Tdap vaccine. Please contact your health care
provider or the Marion County Health Department to receive
these required vaccinations.
