2015 Poster Contest Rules and Application

41st Annual Mathews Market Days
September 11 & 12, 2015
Official Poster Contest
The Mathews Market Days festival is held each year on the Friday and Saturday
following Labor Day. A centerpiece of the festival is the official Market Days
Poster—a limited edition, signed/numbered, collectible art print.
2015 Theme: ”Sunrise/Sunset, Mathews Style”
Entries should reflect the beautiful sunrises or sunsets
Mathews County offers and its history, unique
attractions and abundance of nature.
Prize: $500.00 and ten (10) posters
Entry Specifications:
The poster contest is open to
all ages and levels of expertise; you need not live in
Mathews County to enter; there is no limit to the number
of entries submitted by an individual. A $15.00 entry fee
must accompany each application.
All mediums (watercolor, oil, acrylic, etc.), collages or mixed
media are accepted. Finished artwork must be 18" x 24"
either vertical or horizontal. All entries must be framed,
ready to hang, with an entry form securely attached to the
reverse. Do not present your artwork in “poster” form; the
Market Days Committee will select the typeface and
wording to transform your work into a poster.

Application and $15.00 entry
fee due no later than MAY 15, 2015. One application and

Applications are available at the Virginia Cooperative
Extension, 10494 Buckley Hall Road (next to
Bank of America), Mathews, VA, or online at
www.mathewsmarketdays.com.
Entry Deadline:
Entries should be hand-delivered
no later than June 30, 2015, to Bay School
Community Arts Center located on Main St. in

Copyright:
Entry in this contest assumes
acceptance of all terms and conditions stated on the
entry form. In exchange for the award, the winner
relinquishes all rights to the design. The Mathews
Market Days Committee reserves the right to adapt
the winning design to other graphic materials
without further compensation to the designer.
A limited edition of the poster will be printed. The
winning artist will be required to sign and number
each poster. These posters will be for sale to the
public before, during and after the festival.
Exhibition:
All contest entries will be on display at
the Bay School Community Arts Center from August
1–16, 2015. Artists are required to pick up their
work between August 17-22, 2015.
Unveiling:
The winning entry will be unveiled on
Sunday, August 16, 2015, 1:00 pm, at the Bay
School Community Arts Center. The unveiling
reception, an event open to the public, is a
celebration of the winning artist and poster. The
winning artist must be present to sign/number
posters.
While utmost care will be taken to insure that all artwork is handled properly and displayed safely, the Market Days Committee, its officers and
agents are not responsible for loss or damage to entries.
