Notes From Barrett
Mail Carriers
Just a few days ago I sat with down with two long time Mt. Carmel men who were also
local mail carriers. They began their conversation like many of us do, “What’s the news?”
Then they shared some stories. Some old stories. Some new stories. It was church!
When the early church was developing 2000 years ago it was a quiet movement. Those,
whom Jesus called out, probably had very little vision or expectation for “the church”
outside the goal of delivering the good news! Imagine that. Imagine if the whole mission
of our church was centered on the simple goal of delivering good news. Imagine if
everything we did was connected to and stemmed from the seeds of good news.
Well that’s what Gospel means; “good news”…and that is exactly what we are called to
do and to be; Messengers of Good News. When we serve others we are showing what
God has done for us. When we dream together about new missions for our community
and beyond it is really a response to what God did first. When we invite others to join us
in community and fellowship we look forward to the laughs, the smiles, the hugs, the
words, and the love that connects one to another. When we buckle down in discipleship
the Gospel comes alive. When we dedicate ourselves to consistently studying together,
asking questions, seeking answers, and prayerfully sharing in the revelation of the Word
of God….good news sweeps over us. From the pages of our bibles and the minds of our
brothers and sisters the Spirit of God emerges to reward our hearts with inspiration. In
those Holy Scriptures we see examples of faithfulness, of selflessness, of endurance in
suffering, of humility…and instantly we have good news to share. When we worship
together we praise God for that good news. When we really worship, we lose the
inhibitions and nervousness about how we sound or look. For some that means we put
our arms in the air and lift our voices regardless of appearance. For some that means we
shed the tears that we’ve been holding back. For some that means fall on our knees or
walk the aisle in front of our peers and family. Regardless, we worship God without
restriction because the news is so good. In doing all of this we are really telling a bigger
story. We are telling the story of how God’s goodness has been present in our lives.
Everything we do should be a reaction to God’s faith, God’s love, and God’s grace.
So let the church carry on! Let the people of God be the people of God. Let us take the
message of Jesus, the message that the disciples shared, the message that founds our faith
and share it with a world that is desperate for some good news!

Dear MCBC,
Thank you all so much for your time and effort during my ordination process. I wish I
knew all of the hand that helped create such a meaningful day. I’m grateful for all those
who sat on my council, organized the reception, cooked food, set up tables, played music,
and especially for those who shared their love and support. My future ministry, and my
life has even blessed by the love and care that you have shown me. Your hands have been
hard at work hiding mustard seeds and yeast all throughout my life, I look forward to
continuing to minister alongside you, my amazing church family, as the hands and feet of

the last several years and especially since Ralph's death in January. He loved this church.
Please join us for a celebration of his life on April 25 at 4:00 in the fellowship hall and
afterwards for a reception at the Aqueduct Conference Center (1620 Mt. Carmel Church

IFC News
CROP Hunger Walk Sunday afternoon, April 19, 2015.
Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. Step off time will be 2:30 p.m.
Preparations for the 4 mile Chapel Hill/Carrboro CROP Hunger Walk are taking shape for
this spring. Routes for 2 mile and 1 mile walks are options as well. All routes begin and
end at the Carrboro Town Commons. Please make note of the date and plan to join our
Mount Carmel team. The more walkers we have, the more successful the event will be.
Walkers ask church friends, neighbors and relatives to make donations to support their
participation. The money helps fund the efforts of the Inter Faith Council and Church
World Service to end hunger at home and around the world.
MCBC CROP Walk Team Leaders: Barney Collins, Jennifer Jamerson, Vickie Burnett and
Leona Whichard, will be signing up walkers beginning March 22 before and after Sunday
morning and Wednesday evening church services. Virginia Taylor will assist with using
the CROP Hunger Walk Internet portal for “CROP Walking on the Web”.
Our Church is a Sponsor of the CROP Hunger Walk T-Shirts
Responding to our contribution, John Dorward, IFC Executive Director, wrote, “Thank you
for your recent gift as CROP Hunger Walk Sponsor. ... Our small staff and hundreds of
volunteers rely on you, as do the thousands of people we work with every year.” We will
have the T-shirts for sale for a modest price when signing up walkers.

PraisRing 2015
Our Morgan Handbell Choir will join with over 60 handbell choirs from NC and
adjoining states on Friday and Saturday, April 17-18 for PraisRing 2015. The festival
will be held at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro NC. The choir will rehearse
with other choirs on Friday evening and Saturday morning and present a worship concert
on Saturday afternoon at 2:15pm, which is open to the public.
