Macomb County letter carriers collected nearly a half million pounds of nonperishable food. The food that was collected throughout Macomb County will help stock the shelves of food pantries and hunger mission organizations dedicated to feeding Macomb County children, families, frail senior citizens on fixed incomes, disabled veterans and the homeless. “We are so thankful to our generous Macomb County residents, as well as the letter carriers and all the volunteers that help make the food drive a success,” said Linda Azar, coordinator for the Macomb Food Program. “We are also thankful for the ongoing support from the Teamsters Local 299, USF Holland and YRC trucking companies for providing the drivers and trucks to get the donated food to the warehouse.” Volunteers are needed to help sort the food so that it can be distributed throughout the county.
