Every student has the right to a safe and
equitable learning environment free from
verbal or physical harassment. For students
who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender,
or questioning (LGBTQ), school can be a
difficult place to learn and mature. LGBTQ
students are often invisible in our schools.
Whether or not faculty and administration
are aware of its gay students, these
students need a supportive, safe
environment. - Greater Boston PFLAG

Workshop Description
Workshop participants will learn effective
strategies for schools, teams and activity groups
to increase awareness, prevent violence, counter
negative stereotypes, and promote healthy
relationships and safe environments in their
communities.
This interactive workshop will highlight the
importance of non-judgmental language and
inclusive thinking in our interactions with youth.
Participants will explore personal values as well
as tackle myths around sexual behavior,
communication and condom usage. It will also
provide context for trans* identities. Presenters
will share first hand stories about their
experiences in schools, on teams, and in a world
that looks at everything through the lens of
gender.
Participants will learn concrete tools to make a
more trans* inclusive space for students and
student athletes in schools, on teams, and in
communities.
5 Professional hours are available
following the completion of
this workshop.
