Educators, advisors, activity group leaders, school administrators, wellness coordinators, guidance counselors, athletic directors, coaches, nurses, school resource officers and anyone interested in learning more about effective model programs, best practices, and prevention strategies. Workshop Presenters Kyle Megrath, Greater Boston PFLAG Every student has the right to a safe and equitable learning environment free from verbal or physical harassment. For students who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (LGBTQ), school can be a difficult place to learn and mature. LGBTQ students are often invisible in our schools. Whether or not faculty and administration are aware of its gay students, these students need a supportive, safe environment. - Greater Boston PFLAG Mindy Craver, PPLM Workshop Description Workshop participants will learn effective strategies for schools, teams and activity groups to increase awareness, prevent violence, counter negative stereotypes, and promote healthy relationships and safe environments in their communities. This interactive workshop will highlight the importance of non-judgmental language and inclusive thinking in our interactions with youth. Participants will explore personal values as well as tackle myths around sexual behavior, communication and condom usage. It will also provide context for trans* identities. Presenters will share first hand stories about their experiences in schools, on teams, and in a world that looks at everything through the lens of gender. Participants will learn concrete tools to make a more trans* inclusive space for students and student athletes in schools, on teams, and in communities. 5 Professional hours are available following the completion of this workshop.
