Messiah Lutheran Church Council Meeting March 19, 2015 Present: Nick Brinkmeyer, Judy Ruud, Anne Baunach, Annaliese Kellogg, Anne Baunach, Joe Hamill, Ross Chamberlin, Cathy Hawkins, Sheilia McLaughlin, Jonathan Kniss Excused:, JoEllen Yadwinski Staff: Pastor Eric Wooldridge, Pastor Ron Kempe, Lynne Inman, Traci Vatne Devotions were led by: Sheilia McLaughlin Call to Order by President Anne Baunach Preliminary Actions MLC Agenda: motion to approve the minutes add one adult forum as D on the agenda Move: Move: Sheilia McLaughlin Second: Nick Brinkmeyer Motion carries MLC Minutes: Move to accept the minutes as amended H, to Julie Swienty. Correct spelling of Anneliese. Treasurers $5000 to red not black and giving was down $2500. Move: Ross Chamberlin Second: Cathy Hawkins Motion carries MLC Annual Meeting Minutes: presented for review. Correspondence: For the Good of Messiah: Jonathan – synod newsletter was amazing and the entire congregation should read it. Anneliese – wondering if schools have our information to schools Joe – Thank you for your prayers loss in the extended Judy – 157 people at 10:45am Ross – Happy to be here Traci - Ditto Lynne – Joe Dillon is retiring and his congregation has requested letter Eric – food donations from Subway for our food bank Anne – looking for auction items. Goal is $7700 which will be matched with the grant so they will be able to build a well in Africa. Staff Reports: Eric will be meeting Aaron’s Place with the possibility of using our space during the week. Treasurer’s Report: Move to accept the treasurer’s report as presented: Move: Judy Ruud Second: Ransom Alexander Motion carries Ministry Team Reports: B. Let’s start looking 4-5 years out to see where we want to be in the future. D. Property Judy and Cathy – Property team meeting 8-10am. Sons of Norway E. Stewardship – Joe no report F. Faith Formation – Anne and Anneliese G. Worship and Music – Stephanie – We need new Asst. Ministry Robes. There is room for Tech in the new closet but we need to find out how much space they need. H. Social Ministry – Sheilia I. Personnel – Ransom, Cathy and Jonathan – Whitney Cromwell, Wendy Doman. No meeting Old Business: A. Evangelism: the 3 teams did not meet. Sign-ups for the new team. 1st Impressions – Ransom, Anneliese, Judy and Stephanie. Partner with the Art ministry team to get the signs up. Internal – Cathy, Ross, Nick, JoEllen External – Jonathan, Joe, Anne and Sheilia B. Building Security: C. Call Committee – screening interview on a candidate on Monday night. D. Council Retreat – Family of Grace Lutheran on Lea Hill 9am-2pm New Business: A. Lease Committee – Andy Alenski has volunteered for the lease. Motion to appoint Andy to the position. Move: Ransom Alexander 2nd: Judy Ruud B. Endowment Fund – set policy that they will decline any undesignated bequests that come from council. State policy requires that the endower must designate in the will. Move to apply any undesignated bequest to Messiah Lutheran Church $5000 and over would be split 80% to Debt Reduction/mortgage and 20% general fund and or special projects. Move: Ross Chamberlin 2nd: Judy Ruud C. Alcohol Policy – remains as is D. Adult Forum – God’s Work Our Hands – put together a committee on 10/4 single service here and then go out into the community to do yard work and then to come back to the church for a community. Social Ministries, Worship and Music, External Evangelism and Faith Formation. First meeting of the Ad Hoc committee 4/21 at 7pm Summary Statements: Lease Committee – Andy Alenski has volunteered for the lease. Motion to appoint Andy to the position.
