Festivals and Special Events

Taste of Omaha - May 29th – 31st Showcase of Omaha restaurants,
entertainment, rides and fun. Prices for food, drinks and entertainment based on
a ticket system. Heartland of America Park, 8th and Farnam Sts, and Lewis &
Clark Landing, 515 N. Riverfront Drive.

Santa Lucia Festival - June 4th – 7th at Lewis and Clark Landing downtown. The
2014 Santa Lucia Festival includes entertainment for all ages. 2014 will carry an
ALL Italian theme. Frankie Valli & Four Seasons Tribute Band known as Lights
Out and Gooch & The Guys – featuring Tony & Joey Gulizia will headline this
91st festival. Mark Morello will again perform as well as Carmelita De
LeGuardia, the Santa Lucia Festival Band, La Banda, Mark Morello and The Hit
Squad.

Summer Arts Festival – June 5th – 7th Downtown. The Festival is Omaha’s
premier destination for arts and entertainment featuring 135 of the nation’s
finest visual artists, a stage of continuous musical performances and a
hands-on Children’s Fair.

Sand in the City – June 6th – 7th CenturyLink Center Omaha | Lot B | 10th and
Mike Fahey Street - To raise awareness and funds for Nebraska Children's
Home Society, corporate and community group teams work with professional
sand sculptors from across the country and local architects/engineers to build
incredible sand sculptures followed by a weekend long festival. The Family
Festival is open to the public to view finished sand sculptures and enjoy the
festival like atmosphere all weekend long.

College World Series – June 13th – 23rd/24th (Opening Celebration Day
and CWS Fan Fest) Ameritrade Park

Bank of the West Celebrates America – June 26th, 6:00 – 10:00 pm, Memorial
Park, 60th & Dodge. Free concert and fireworks show! Enjoy this annual
celebration featuring Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Eddie Money with a
Fireworks Grand Finale.

Railroad Days – July 11th – 12th, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Although not free, it is a
wonderful deal with purchase of an All Aboard Pass for $15/family (max. 2 adults
+ $5 addl. adult) which includes admission and transportation to all locations –
Durham Museum, Lauritzen Gardens, Union Pacific Railroad Museum,
RailsWest Railroad Museum, and the Historic General Dodge House.)

Shakespeare on the Green – Elmwood Park, just south of UNO. Performances
start at 8:00 PM. Parking is available all over UNO's campus. Shakespeare On
The Green offers activities for kids, forums for adults, a Towne Square full of
great food and souvenirs, and even a contest for pets! The fun starts at 6:00 PM.

Greek Festival – August 21st - August 23rd; St John the Baptist Greek Orthodox
Church, 602 Park Avenue. Authentic Greek Music; Greek Folk Dancing in full
Greek dress; delicious, homemade Greek cuisine; a Greek boutique; tantalizing
pastries, and children's activities: pony rides, face painting, balloons, and a
bounce house.

24th Annual Fort Omaha Intertribal Powwow – Saturday, September 12th, 17:30 p.m., Metro Fort Omaha Campus parade ground. Celebrating Native
American cultures, the powwow honors the traditional dance, music, artistry, oral
history and foods of various tribes across Nebraska and the surrounding region
including, but not limited to, Northern Ponca, Omaha, Santee Sioux and
Winnebago. Free and open to the public
Free Summer Concerts

Playing with Fire Thursdays 5:00 pm at Midtown Crossing at Turner Park, 31st
and Dodge Sts; Blues, jazz, soul, funk, and a whole lot of fun for free as local,
national and international artists perform.

Zydeco Festival - Saturday, June 27th at Midtown Crossing’s Turner Park. A full
day of music, Creole- and Cajun-style food and activities, and will feature the
finest and most treasured musical artists from throughout the New Orleans,
Louisiana region. .

Saturdays at Stinson in Aksarben Village – Saturdays, May 2nd – August 29th,
7-10 p.m. There will be food and drink vendors, face painting, and balloon
artists. Kids can play in the fountain and on the playground equipment. These
concerts are family-friendly so be sure to bring your chair and/or blanket.

YMCA Healthy Kids Day – June 14, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Aksarben Village The
National Safety Council, Nebraska & YMCA of Greater Omaha Present: Healthy
Kids Day! A day full of fun outdoor activities for the whole family including Bike
Rodeo, free helmet giveaway & fitting as well as bike maintenance. Guest
celebrities including Eric Crouch, Miss Teen Iowa, and Miss Teen South Dakota.

Barnes and Noble Preschool Storytimes - Enjoy preschool storytime at Barnes
and Noble stores nationwide. Times and dates may vary. Please verify with your
local store before visiting. In Omaha, storytime is every Tuesday and Thursday at
11 a.m. at the Oakview store, and every Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Crossroads
Store (it is a good idea to verify before visiting).

Hands-On-Habitat at Fontenelle Forest - 3rd Friday of each month August –
May, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Beginning in August – 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.), Registration
required. ParentSavvy and Fontenelle Forest are providing these fun, educational,
hands-on classes for pre-school age children and parents. Held the 3rd Friday of
each month, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Beginning in August – 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.) at
Fontenelle Forest. FREE 3 times a year with promo code “ParentSavvy”.

Home Depot Free Kid’s Workshops - Once each month on Saturdays, 9 a.m. –
12 p.m. Designed for children ages 5-12. Workshops teach children do-it-yourself
skills and tool safety. All participants will get to keep their craft, and receive a Kids
Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement.

Joslyn Art Museum - FREE general admission everyday at this beautiful building
with amazing permanent and travelling exhibits. They have programs especially
for kids, and special events throughout the year. Additional charge for some
special exhibitions. When you’re at the Museum, visit the new ART WORKS
interactive space! Also enjoy FREE KickstART Saturday, offered six times a year
that will entertain and engage families with hands-on activities, performances, and
demonstrations that complement Joslyn’s exhibitions. (Closed Mondays.)

Kids Bowl Free- During Summer months, Registration required; Register your
children and they will receive two free games every day all summer! Shoe rental
extra (some centers sell a season shoe rental pass.) Parents can purchase a
family pass, if they wish, so they can bowl with their kids. What a great way to be
active and have fun with your kids all summer and build memories together!

Free crafts at Lakeshore Learning Stores - Saturdays, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Every
Saturday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Ages 3 and up.

Kids Skate Free - Registration required. Provides kids with opportunities for
FREE skating at specific locations throughout the US. Each location has their own
age and time specifications. In Omaha, SkateDaze is a participating location.
Skate rental extra.

Libraries - There are many public libraries in Omaha and the surrounding
communities which host wonderful storytimes, fun programs for children and
teens, classes for adults, and special events throughout the year!

Lowe’s Free Build and Grow Clinics - Held on select Saturdays at 10 a.m.
Registration required. Bring the kids to any Lowe’s store to build fun projects. This
is recommended for children in grades 1st-5th. Register early because they tend
to fill up quickly!

Mangelsen’s Kids Craft Time - Saturdays 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Drop in anytime. Visit
Mangelsen’s for theme each week.

Michaels Free Family Craft Time and Kids Club – Drop in and take home a
completed project. $2 per child for 30 minutes of creative craft fun, supplies
included. Ages 3 and up. Saturdays 10 a.m. – noon. Free Family Craft Times are
also offered seasonally.

Oak View Mall Kids Club - Last Tuesday of every month from 10:30 a.m. – 11:00
a.m. Join the Joslyn Art Museum and Oak View Mall for FREE, creative, and funfilled activities at the Oak View Mall Kid’s Club, held on the last Tuesday of every
month from 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on the Lower Level near JCPenney.

Omaha Community Centers - Open gym time with your little ones for as little as
$1/adult, and special events throughout the year. Classes for all ages also offered.

Pottery Barn Kids Storytimes - Tuesdays from 11 – 11:30 a.m. Special events
are also held throughout year. Time and date may vary by store. Please call your
local store to confirm.

Scheels Kids Klub - Second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. Kids Klub is a
great way to discover fun activities and crafts. Held on the second Monday of each
month at 6 p.m. For ages 4-12. Parents are encouraged to stay with their children
during event. Sign up at Customer Service is encouraged but not required.

Shadow Lake Towne Center Tots on the Towne - Second Thursday of each
month at 10:30 a.m. Tots on the Towne is hosted at a different location inside
Shadow Lake Towne Center. Event activities vary from month-to-month. Some
require RSVP.

Westroads Kids Club - First Wednesday of every month, from 10 – 11 a.m. Held
in the Upper Level near the Children’s Play Area. Membership is FREE and all
children receive a special gift during their birthday month while supplies last. For
