How do I get involved?
For most sports, nomination is via the Sport Sign Up page on the Mount Carmel College
website (http://mountcarmel.tas.edu.au/sport-activity-sign-up/). This page lists the sports
on offer during each term – by clicking on the “Sign-Up” button you will be taken to a form
where parents/carers will enter their child’s details and the sport or sports they would like
to play in that Term. There will also be written communication for some sports, and
watch out in the Family Bulletin for when it is time to nominate for a particular sport.
Teams will be put together based upon a range of factors including the number of
nominations, the availability of coaches/managers and friends you may need to be with
for transport requirements.
Students and their parents/carers must consider all other commitments they have,
transport arrangements to and from games and training (the school does not provide
transport) and the uniform required to participate. Training is determined by the coach,
but where possible it is usually during one lunchtime per week at school or nearby sports
fields.
Family members and friends also have the opportunity to be involved in the College’s
sporting program. The online sign-up form has a field where parents/carers can nominate
someone to be a team coach, manager or supervisor, or to even help with umpiring or
scoring if the sport requires. This support is very much required and allows the College to
offer such a large range of sporting opportunities.
In what sports can I represent the College?


Parents and family members are encouraged to volunteer coach, manage, supervise
and umpire for any team in which they have knowledge or an interest. If your parents
are considering volunteering, please contact the College Office or check the College
website for the Working With Children Check for Coaches information. It is suggested
that you complete this new check immediately. New volunteers will also be requied to
complete a Volunteer Induction.
What will the College do?
MCC will organise teams in which all students who nominate for a sport will have an
opportunity to participate. Teams can be organised to accommodate a friend request for
transport reasons and every effort is made to make teams even, especially when there
are multiple teams in the same competition, to allow for fun and fair games.
All teams are organised within the financial constraints of MCC; are dependent upon
volunteers to assist with coaching, managing and umpiring; and, are conducted in a safe
manner.
How will I know if there is a cancellation or change in schedule?
Students will be informed of cancellations and other changes as soon as it is possible.
They should also be posted on the Cancellations page on the College website
(http://mountcarmel.tas.edu.au/sport-activity-cancellations/). Students are then able to
contact parents if need be to inform them of the change. If in doubt, you may contact the
MCC Front Office on 6216 7900.
What uniform is required for which sport?
There is an expectation that students wear the uniform in the correct manner. The full
tracksuit (including spray jacket) must be worn to and from all games and competitions,
and the navy sports bag is also taken to games. Hair is to be tied back at all times and
the MCC hat offers sun protection. During games and competition, tracksuits and rugby
tops are not to be worn.
Suitable shoes are important to prevent injury. Skate shoes and casual shoes are not
acceptable. Please see the Sports Administration Officer if you require advice on which
shoes to purchase.
