CLAIMS RELATING TO LEADERSHIP FOR TURNAROUND SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS’ MOTIVATION THE MALTA SOCIETY FOR EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT MSEAM [mseam.info] Dr. Khalid Arar (The College for Academic Studies and Sakhnin College) Date: 24 March 2015 Time: 5:30pm — 7.00pm Venue: MUT Headquarters, Republic Street, Valletta. The MSEAM, in collaboration with the Malta Union of Teachers (MUT), presents the seminar entitled ‘Claims relating to Leadership for turnaround schools and teachers’ motivation.’ Seminar Brief Many broad-based studies conducted in recent years to examine factors influencing school success and the leadership role have indicated that school quality and success largely depends on the quality of the teachers and what do they do. It is claimed that pedagogic leaders who have succeeded in turning their schools around were characterized by their ability to influence this factor. This presentation has four goals: (1) to identify characteristics of educational leaders that have succeeded in turning their schools around by synthesizing findings from four international broad-based studies, combined with findings from in-depth research; (2) to characterize the influence of pedagogic leadership on student achievements; (3) to point up the importance of context and its influence on motivation to teach and learn and (4) to conclude with insights and practices that can turn around schools. Speaker Khalid Arar (PhD) is a Senior Lecturer at the Center for Academic Studies and co-head of MA degree in Education Administration at Sakhnin Academic College. His studies focuses in issues of diversity, equity and ethnicity in education in general and in educational leadership and higher education in particular. His most recent books include Jordinzation of Higher education among the Palestinians in Israel (2010, Flursheimer, in Hebrew, with Kussai Haj Yehia); Arab women in management and leadership (2013, Palgrave, with Tamar Shapira; Faisal Azaiza and Rachel Hertz Lazarowitz).
