Additionally, “PAWS” stickers are given in the cafeteria to class tables who demonstrate positive school behavior. When tables received ten stickers, that class received a special table setting during a Monday lunchtime. When classes received 25 stickers, they received a special guest or grade level music during lunchtime. As lunch tables continue to accumulate stickers, they will receive other rewards. PAWS NEWS PAWS Behavioral Expectations Program Positive Attitude Act Responsibly Work and Play Safely Show Respect The PAWS program at Matthew Thornton is a program to maintain and support positive school behaviors. If your student arrives home with “PAWS” stickers, it indicates that they were observed demonstrating a positive behavior in areas such as the hallway, cafeteria, classroom, library, etc. The focus for the month of January was following bus rules and exhibiting respectful behavior on the bus and toward the bus driver. In addition to the “Behavior of the Month”, classes earned stickers for demonstrating “PAWS” behaviors in the classroom, as well as other areas of the school. The classes with the most stickers at each grade level earned the “Golden PAW”. Winners from all the grades were able to have an indoor yarn “snowball” fight in the cafeteria. NOTES FROM THE LIBRARY Did you know? • • Winners announced at the beginning of January were: First grade Mrs. McGee’s class Second grade Mrs. Rheault’s class Third grade Mrs. Silvius’s class Fourth grade Mrs. Balon-Frost’s class Fifth grade Mrs. Skoropowski’s class Congratulations to our winners! • The focus for February was again bus behavior. For the monthly awards announced at the beginning of March each class will participate in an indoor “snowball” fight. 3 February was such a short month with snow days, delays, and vacation! First and second grade classes listened to fairytales and biographies during their story time. Students learned where the biography section of the library is located and how the call number is decided for these nonfiction books. Third grade classes completed a unit on castles to complement their study of medieval times. Students practiced notetaking as a group before working with small groups to find more information. The culminating activity will be to compare and contrast the features of castles with homes today. • • • Fifth grade classes started a two class unit on understanding “Point of View.” Some fourth grade classes continued to work using the World Book Encyclopedia online to learn more about New Hampshire. Mrs. Lynch’s and Mrs. Rheault’s second grade classes completed a four unit lesson using biographies to learn about Jackie Robinson, Amelia Earhart, Leonardo DaVinci, and Thomas Jefferson. They used resources such as books, magazines, and a web site. MATTHEW THORNTON DRAMA CLUB proudly presents Getting to know… Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Jean K.
