Notre Dame School News 1241-105th Street, North Battleford, Sask. S9A 1S8 PRINCIPAL: Mr. D. Sarenco www.loccsd.ca VICE-PRINCIPAL: Mr. A. Senger M A R C H 2015 PHONE: 1-306-445-0283 FAX: 1-306-446-7180 HOLY SEASON OF LENT We started 2015 Lenten season on February 18th by celebrating Ash Wednesday. This holy season is our Catholic liturgical season that lasts 40 days (excluding Sundays). It begins with Ash Wednesday celebration and concludes at sundown on Holy Thursday. During these 40 days, we are invited to fast, pray and give alms. These traditional sacrifices in Lent are really penance, in the same spirit as the people of Nineveh that repented at the preaching of Jonah. Throughout our history, Christians have found prayer, fasting, and almsgiving to be an important part of repentance and renewal. They are called the traditional pillars of Christianity. Many Catholics now add something during Lent rather than giving up something, either to address personal habits that need work or to add some outreach to others in need. More than that in his Lenten message of 2015 Pope Francis asks us to “make our hearts firm” (James 5:8) and to be “merciful, attentive and generous.” Embrace his call to mercy by reaching out to those in need. Be attentive to the Lenten call to prayer; be generous with our time and treasure. In this Holy Lent, we who were baptized are called to renew our own baptismal commitment. We are called not just to shun sins during Lent, but also to convert our hearts and minds as the disciples of Jesus Christ. If so, we can be renewing ourselves to get ready for the resurrection of the Son of God, who is our Savior. Fr. Cuong Luong THANK YOU … Several students at N.D. have serious food allergies. Children may not share lunches. Children should report forgotten lunches to teachers. Do not borrow food from others. If your child’s lunch requires a spoon or fork, please send one with their lunch. The school does not provide utensils for students. Report Cards Report cards will be sent home on Tuesday, March 24 with all students. Student Led Conferences will be held the evening of Wednesday and Thursday, March 25 and 26 from 4-7pm. This provides a great opportunity for parents/guardians to see what their child(ren) has been accomplishing as an individual and as part of a class. A huge thank you to the Notre Dame School Community Council and parents who showered the Notre Dame School staff with treats and lunch during Staff Appreciation Week. Notre Dame School Dressing for the Weather At this time of the year the weather can change drastically from morning to afternoon or from day to day. Students are expected to go outside at recess unless the temperature condition reaches -25 degrees with the wind chill. Going outside and getting a little fresh air is a nice change for the students from classroom activities. Students are expected to dress appropriately for the weather. A warm jacket, mitts, and toque are recommended. Information Update If your address, phone number, emergency contact, or other family information has changed, please give us a call so we may update our records. Having your child(rens) current contact information on file is very important. Student Absences Please call the school if your child will be absent from school. Although it is important that we have information as to why your child is absent; it is more important that we know that your child is safe. If you cannot call the school to report your child's absence you may receive a phone call from school personnel. Please do not be offended. Again, we just need to know that you son or daughter is safe. Ski Trip to Table Mountain On Friday, March 6 the Grade 5 to 7 students will be going to Table Mountain. Students will have the opportunity to go downhill skiing, to go snowboarding, or to go tubing.
