World Veterinary Day Celebrated by Eastern Regional Station of
ICAR-NDRI, Kalyani, West Bengal, India
World Veterinary Day was celebrated on 25th April, 2015 by the Indian Council of
Agricultural Research-National Dairy Research Institute (ICAR- NDRI), Eastern Regional
Station (ERS), Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal, India with the theme of “Vector-borne
diseases with a zoonotic potential” to create awareness on the importance of vector borne
diseases in animals and its zoonotic potential. As a part of this celebration, the
programme was started on 24th April, 2015 at this campus with scientific presentations,
discussions and farmers’-scientists’ interaction on animal diseases having zoonotic
importance prevailing in West Bengal and it was concluded on 25th April, 2015.
Approximately 60 participants including dairy farmers, students, trainees,
scientists, technicians and expert field veterinarians attended the celebration. Various
programmes like expert lectures on vector borne diseases of animals having zoonotic
importance in India as well as the measures to prevent/ curb such diseases, farmers’scientists’ interaction on this issue and felicitation of expert field veterinarians who had
served their whole life for welfare of livestock etc. have been organized throughout the
day. During the farmers’-scientists’ interaction, the issues related to vaccination
schedule, scientific management practises were also discussed in details. Women farmers’
have shown their active participation in learning the preventive/control measures for
better management of diseases in livestock.
