Capabilities
EPD (Engineered Products Division), located in Carlsbad, NM, is an experienced metals and
plastics fabrication company primarily engaged in the manufacturing of specialty and
commercial vessels and structural items. EPD has over 20 years’ experience in metals fabrication
and precision machining with one of the most comprehensively equipped facilities in the
Southwest.
EPD has a skilled labor force with a full range of equipment that allows us to manufacture and
fabricate a variety of products. We have experience manufacturing tanks, structural steel items,
containers, and other fabricated products. EPD can provide close tolerance machining with our
manual and CNC lathes and mills for both large and small items. Our fabrication skills allow us
to use various welding processes for all weldable materials and thicknesses. Facility capabilities
include a wide variety of machining, welding, cutting, forming and lifting/handling equipment.
This document includes examples of selected past projects as well as descriptions of the sizes
and handling capacities of our manufacturing and fabrication equipment. We look forward to

space and an additional 3 acres of outside testing areas, metal finishing, staging, and storage

Testing Capabilities
EPD offers a full complement of Non Destructive Examination (NDE) services with the best and
most qualified staff available. EPD contracts with two Level III, ASNT Certified Examiners
who have years of NDE experience. In addition to all the usual NDE capabilities, EPD also
offers radiograph examination and helium leak testing services including classroom instruction
and certification of Level II Examiners. We perform leak testing and hydrostatic testing for
piping and vessels.
EPD also offers destructive examination with a fully functional pressure test bunker and a
Type A performance-testing drop pad. This drop pad was constructed to meet the regulatory
requirements of the IAEA per Section A-618 of Safety Series No. 37. The pad with its present
configuration will support drop testing of containers weighing up to 27,000 lb.
EXPERIENCE AND PRODUCTS
Our products primarily service the Department of Energy, Commercial Nuclear, Mining, and Oil
and Gas industries. We deliver precision-machined parts, piping and vessels, process skids,
structural weldments, gloveboxes and high-integrity nuclear material transportation packages.
The primary materials used for construction are stainless and alloy steels, carbon steel, and a
variety of nonmetallic materials including high density polyethylene plastics.
Modular Process Skids
The Pretreatment Engineering Platform (PEP) was built for the Prime contractor at the Hanford
site in Richland, Washington. The PEP is a modular process skid system designed to prove the
functionality of the Pretreatment System for the Waste Treatment Plant being built at Hanford
Washington. For this project, we built an engineering scale (approximately ¼ scale) version of
the Waste Treatment Plant’s pre-filtration system. The system consisted of various vessels,
pumps, tanks, piping, controls and instrumentation, and was placed on 16 skids. The components
were constructed from both stainless steel and carbon steel.

EPD has built a variety of other custom products for industries including complex assemblies
and process equipment requiring quality machining and fabrication services.

We manufacture containment packages for processing, shipping and storage of nuclear fuel

Structural Steel Beams and Trusses
ABOVE : Welded beams fabricated from plate met demanding tolerance requirements
EPD designed and fabricated custom roof beams for the National Enrichment Facility in Eunice,
NM. These beams were built up from plate and welded to meet exact dimensional requirements.
EPD laser leveled the plates to ensure straightness.
This work was accomplished in accordance with NQA-1 quality requirements, including
procurement of materials and performing commercial grade dedication. EPD designed
connections, prepared shop drawings, and fabricated and painted the product.
Structural Platforms, Railings

Manufacturing
EPD has over 100 machine tools, including CNC and manually operated equipment. The
following is a partial list of major pieces of equipment.
CNC MACHINING CENTERS

1993 G&L Model 650TX CNC Horizontal Mill with travels of 79”Y, 36”Z, 120”X,
38”W, with 40,000 lb capacity 60” x 120” table.
2004 Mori Seiki NV-5000B Vertical Machining Center with Fanuc 18i control and Mori
Seiki MAPPS programming system. Table size is 52” x 23.6” with a 2640 lb capacity
and has rapid feed rates of 1653” per minute. Has 30-tool magazine capacity with a chipto-chip tool change time of 2.6 seconds. Spindle has 12,000 max RPM and 25 HP drive
motor. Simultaneous 3-axis contouring, circular and helical interpolation, and high speed
synchronized tapping capability.
CNC LATHES

1993 Mori Seiki SL-35 CNC Turning Center with 0T Fanuc Control, 28” swing x 44”
between centers, 45 HP, 12 station turret.
2003 Mazak NEXUS Series QTN-200 CNC Lathe with Mazatrol 640T control, 8” chuck
with 2” bar capacity, 24” max swing, 1299” per minute rapid speed, and 5000 max RPM
spindle with 35 peak HP. Has 12-station turret with 1.3 second maximum tool index
time.

Fabrication
