2015 Seed Profile
The Next Generation of Seed
The past year has been a big year for us here at Nuseed. We’re honored to be a part of your operation.
We know you have several choices for your sunflower hybrids, and appreciate that you choose us year
after year.
As we have completed our brand transition from SEEDS 2000 to Nuseed, we’ve taken steps to define
“The Next Generation of Seed” by creating the largest sunflower breeding program to date. Our head
sunflower breeder in Breckenridge supervises our global breeding network of several sunflower breeders
plus staff across four continents. Together they research and test the largest pool of confectionary sunflower germplasm and one of the most diverse oil sunflower germplasm pools in the seed industry. Through
this collaborative effort, we’ve made great advances in our confection and oil programs while offering you
the POST weed control option of Clearfield® and ExpressSun®.
We’ve done all of these things to honor our pledge to help you mate the perfect hybrid for every acre
across your entire farm. We thank you for you r past business and look forward to an enhanced relationship as we go forward.
We’re Nuseed… the next generation of seed.

Sunflower
Breeding Team
Dr. Jim Gerdes
Jim has 20 years of plant breeding and
R&D experience in oil seeds, trait management and sunflowers. He is well known
across the industry. Jim is responsible for
establishing and leading both the global
sunflower research pipeline and providing
leadership to the trait advancement process
across crops.
Alison Stone
Alison started her career in agriculture as
a sales agronomist in north central SD working mainly with corn, soybeans, wheat and
sunflowers. Her passion to help improve yield,
oil content, disease tolerance and lodging in
sunflowers led her to Fargo, ND to study for
her Master’s degree at North Dakota State
University while working in the USDA sunflower breeding program. Alison joined the
Nuseed team in July and is ready to get to
work using traditional and molecular breeding
techniques. She is responsible for leading the
development of the oilseed pipeline to serve
markets across the globe.
Scott Radi
Scott brings over 14 years of plant breeding experience in oil and confectionary seed
to the Nuseed Innovation Center in Woodland,
CA. His education and experience in plant
pathology and molecular genetics provide a
unique blend of expertise. Scott is responsible
for leading the development of the confectionary pipeline to serve markets across the globe.
Erin Gerdes
Erin has over 15 years of experience in
both sunflower and corn breeding programs.
She has considerable expertise in breeding
nursery management and application of molecular marker technologies for plant improvement. She also brings a strong background in
research database and inventory management
to the breeding team.
Erin is responsible for the Breckenridge,
MN confectionary seed breeding program as
well as the overall management of the station’s breeding nurseries.

Dr. Fabio Pedraza
Dr. Pedraza has over 19 years of experience in plant genetics. As a sunflower breeder
at Nuseed, he is using traditional breeding
techniques together with molecular markers
to understand the genetics of important traits
such as seed size, disease tolerance and yield
to develop new confection and oilseed
hybrids.
Jeremy Klumper
Jeremy Klumper has been with Nuseed
since 2008, and has over 12 years of agricultural experience. His primary focus is management of the hybrid testing for the sunflower
and corn programs, specializing in replicated
yield trial testing in the northern growing
regions. Jeremy has also taken on responsibilities as an assistant oilseed sunflower
breeder over the past two years. In addition,
he has managed the corn breeding nursery for
the last six years. He is also serving as Station
Manager for the Breckenridge research facility, where he manages personnel, coordinates
workloads, and daily operations.
