SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES Martin Bailey I'm a fourth year Anaesthetics registrar with an interest in perioperative medicine, anaesthetics in the time of the obesity epidemic and teaching. My spare time is occupied by my two young sons, social sports and offering opinions on anything rugby to anyone who will listen! Claire McGuinnety Following an internship and post-reg year in community pharmacy in her hometown of Christchurch, Claire moved to WDHB (North Shore & Waitakere Hospitals) 10 years ago, where she has worked in Assessment Treatment & Rehab, Medicine, Clinical Trials and Surgery. She has been Surgical Pharmacist Team Leader at WDHB since 2008, covering intensive care and attending regular acute pain rounds. Her areas of interest include pain management/opioid safety, the development of a pre-operative medicines reconciliation service for elective surgery patients, and promoting surgical pharmacists as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team. Heather Isenman Dr Heather Isenman is currently an advanced trainee in Infectious Diseases at Christchurch Hospital. Her areas of interest include Legionella Longbeachae epidemiology and clinical disease, antimicrobial susceptiblity testing and staphyloccal disease. Eamon Duffy Eamon is the Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist at Auckland District Health Board. This post follows his experience in the same role in the UK in starting Stewardship at his Trust and becoming an Independent Prescriber in Infection. Eamon has worked in Medication Safety and other clinical pharmacy roles and has interest in Health Informatics and bringing this into Antimicrobial Stewardship. Grant McRae A dyslexic and nearly illiterate 7 year old saw a documentary on Hospital Pharmacy and sterile fluid preparation in a laminar flow cabinet about 1969, from then on Pharmacy was his destiny. Often struggled as a student (thank goodness for spellcheck), interested in the obscure and unusual, with a need to know why, Grant has been inspired over the years by those that have the ability to turn knowledge in to common sense everyday clinical nouse, Keith Isherwood, Hartley Atkinson, Andrew Orange and perhaps some in the audience today. Time with clinicians Evan Begg, John Bourke, Jurriaan De Groot, Richard Everts, Rudyard Yap and Mark Beale, has resulted in interests in pharmacokinetics, geriatrics, chronic pain and infectious diseases. For the record he is a product of CIT School of Pharmacy graduating 1984, a community internship at Grant’s Pharmacy in Waipukurau, before a move to Christchurch and Hospital Pharmacy in 1987. Grant is now considered part of the furniture at Palmerston North Hospital, having worked for MidCentral Health (and forerunners) for 26 years, initially at Dannevirke Hospital and before moving to Palmerston North Hospital since 1993. Whilst never presenting at NZHPA Conference level, assisted Andrew Orange present workshops at OMRO, Paediatrics 2002 and Polypharmacy in the Elderly, the following year, also co-ordinated and presented the first Antimicrobial/Infectious Disease MICP Clinical School in Palmerston North in July 2003. SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES Arthur Morris Dr Morris is a Clinical Microbiologist at Auckland City Hospital. He has been involved in surveillance of Surgical Site Infections for some time and is currently the Clinical Lead for the National Surgical Site Infection Improvement Programme. Clare Greasley Clare is currently a Team leader for the Pharmacy Surgical team at Christchurch hospital. Graduating alongside the lovely Pam Buffery Clare began her career in hospital Pharmacy in the UK where she enjoyed a variety of roles including renal, ICU, nutrition and medicines information. Having moved to New Zealand in 2002 she spent 3 years as the Senior Pharmacist at Burwood Hospital covering orthopaedics, spinal injuries and brain injury rehab before starting back at Christchurch Hospital in 2007 after maternity leave. Clare still has a special interest in Renal Pharmacy and is currently involved with the HQSC Safe Use of Opioids National Collaborative. Marie-Claire Morahan Marie-Claire joined the Clinical Pharmacology department at Christchurch Hospital in 2013. She is currently working as a Drug Information pharmacist and is also involved in producing the CDHB Patient Information Leaflets. Prior to this, Marie-Claire worked as a clinical pharmacist in various hospitals around New Zealand, in addition to spending three years in London as a parenteral nutrition and aseptic services pharmacist. She has completed a postgraduate certificate in clinical pharmacy from the University of Otago. Liz Malcom Liz is the Senior Pharmacist at Burwood Hospital. She has specialist interest in Orthopedics and Spinal medicine and rehabilitation. She trained at Otago University and has worked as a clinical pharmacist in hospitals in both New Zealand and the UK in a range of roles including older persons health, medicine, surgery, paediatrics and antibiotic DUE. She has been working at Burwood Hospital for the last 7 years and completed her Pharmacist Prescriber qualification in 2013 and is currently involved in the pharmacy design for the rebuild at Burwood Hospital. Tracey Borrie Tracey is a Drug Information pharmacist for the Clinical Pharmacology department at Christchurch Hospital. She has been in this role for 7 years, and is also involved with teaching for the Otago Medical School. Previously, Tracey worked as a clinical pharmacist in NZ, England and the Republic of Ireland. She has also been involved in the Medication Use Review service in Canterbury and is currently working on Medicines Therapy Assessment accreditation. Danielle Spencer Danielle Spencer is a Clinical Nurse Specialist (General Surgery) working at Christchurch Public Hospital. She has worked as a nurse in General Surgery for ten years now and has a special interest in Hepatico-biliary surgery, nutrition and VTE prevention. She has recently completed a post graduate diploma in Health Sciences Clinical Nursing from the University of Otago, and is greatly enjoying a well-earned break from studying. SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES Cherry Crawshay Cherry is a Clinical Pharmacist currently working in the Surgical team at Christchurch Hospital. She has been a hospital Pharmacist for 14 years, previously working at Princess Margaret Hospital with specialist interest in Geriatric Medicine. Her current roles involve the training of intern pharmacists, training of junior pharmacists and providing clinical support to the MDT. She has previous experience in developing a comprehensive Clinical service at Princess Margaret hospital, Neurosurgery/ Neurology services at Christchurch Public Hospital. Her areas of interest are varied with a with focus on falls prevention, bariatric patients and development of clinical documentation and protocols in specialty areas. Teresa Hawke Teresa is currently the senior pharmacist with the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit (NZLTU) at Auckland City Hospital. She started her pharmacist career in 2010 as an intern pharmacist at Auckland City Hospital and has since stayed on to work at Auckland Hospital as a registered pharmacist. During this time, she has worked as a pharmacist in general medicine, mental health and surgery, in particular vascular surgery, general surgery and orthopaedics. Kiri Aikman Kiri is a Senior Medicines Information pharmacist at Auckland City Hospital where she has worked for the past 4 years. She is part of the general medicine team and has most recently taken on the challenge of cardiology. Kiri is also a current committee member of the MICP –SIG. She is very excited because she is going on holiday to Italy a week after the SIG meeting – travel tips are most welcome. Carolyn Coulter Carolyn Coulter is a senior clinical pharmacist, working at Dunedin Hospital. She has a wide range of clinical interests mainly focussing on ‘medical’ specialties but also including neurosurgery with neurology. During her career as a clinical pharmacist she has worked at Whangarei, Timaru, and Dunedin Hospitals as well as spending four years as a lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy at Otago University. She currently covers a broad range of cardiology, renal, and psychiatric wards but also has an interest in adverse drug reactions and in clinical pharmacy research – due to previous research on drug design and development before training as a pharmacist. Jocelyn Livesey Jocelyn has been a pharmacist at Dunedin Hospital for 24 years, approximately 16 of these as Medicines Information Pharmacist. She is also involved in the hospital Medicines management, Infection Control and Antimicrobial committees and overseeing the updating of antibiotic and other medicines related guidelines. Over the years she has worked as a pharmacist in most clinical areas within the Hospital and has a particular interest in psychiatry, neurology and geriatrics. Chris Jay Chris is currently the Pharmacy Manager at Hutt Hospital. He has a specialist interest in Intensive Care and Surgical Pharmacy, where he spent most of his career before moving into a managerial role. Chris still provides clinical pharmacy services to the General Surgical Ward at Hutt Hospital. During his career Chris has been actively involved with the UKCPA’s Surgery and Theatres Pharmacy Interest Group, initially as a committee member and then Chairman of the Interest Group. SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES Before leaving the UK he was also Chair of the UKCPA’s Education Programme Committee. Chris has presented at various UK national and international conferences around aspects of Surgical Pharmacy and still contributes to various forums around this area of speciality. Tania Jones I initially completed a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science at Otago majoring in Medical Microbiology and Cytogenetics. After staring down a microscope for 8 hours a day decided this wasn’t for me and headed back down south to Otago to study pharmacy. Since graduating I have worked in a variety of community and hospital environments in both NZ and the UK (interspersed with periods of maternity leave). Having found that my true interest lies in medicines information I was lucky enough to be offered a one year maternity leave position at Wellington Hospital which I am really enjoying. Annette Egan Annie is a MClinPharm graduate of the University of Otago and has spent most of her career working and teaching in the critical care area. She has held directorate ICU posts in the UK and Australia, and has been previously been involved in lecturing at the University of Otago and Monash University. Annie set up the SHPA Critical Care COSP and lectures at their seminars every year. She is the current co-convenor of MICP along with Chloe Campbell. Annie shifted to her home town of Nelson 10 years ago (lifestyle) and works at Nelson Hospital. Chloë Campbell Chloë has worked in both hospital and community pharmacy in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. She has worked in Medicines Information for 14+ years and is currently co-convenor of the Medicines Information and Clinical Pharmacy Special Interest Group of the New Zealand Hospital Pharmacists Association. She has been involved in intern pharmacist assessment with the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand, is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the New Zealand Formulary and an independent commentator for the Pharmacy Research Review. Chloë trained at Otago University School of Pharmacy and during her career has developed strong interests in information literacy, communication, quality improvement and most recently the research-practice interface. This has led her back to tertiary study in 2014 embarking on a doctoral research program exploring the unmet medicines information needs of health professionals in primary care.
