PERSONAL INJURY SEMINAR Monday 30th March 2015 INTRODUCTION Ormond Meeting Rooms are delighted to be hosting a seminar on Personal Injury on Monday, 30th March, 2015. Information on our 8 speakers can be seen in the attached brochure and some of the topics covered will include: •What to seek in an expert personal injury report •Predictable Patterns of Injury •Prognostic features in lower back injury •Perils & pitfalls of Nerve Injuries in Personal Injury litigation •A legal practitioner’s overview on changes to the presentation and defence of Personal injury claims The seminar will run from 9.30am to 5.00pm and, at€ €250 per person, will include morning and afternoon refreshments and a hot lunch (please advise us of any dietary requirements at time of booking). Dr James Gray MB BCh BAO BA AFRCSI DFLM FCEM Dr. James Gray is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Tallaght Hospital since 2006. He has extensive experience having worked in Emergency Medicine in both the United Kingdom and Ireland. He is a medicolegal expert in Accident and Emergency Medicine since 2006 and has an expert interest in all aspects of injury and trauma. Having graduated in Medicine at TCD in 1996, Dr. Gray initially trained gaining a Membership of the RCSI in 2001 and shortly after took up an Emergency Medicine Specialist Registrar position at the South Trent Higher Training Programme in the UK. Dr. Gray gained a Fellowship of the College of Emergency Medicine in 2006. He completed the Diploma in Forensic and Legal Medicine at UCD in 2012. Dr. Gray is on the Specialist Register in Emergency Medicine of the Medical Council of Ireland. He is a member of the Medical Protection Society (MPS), the Irish Hospital Consultants Association (IHCA), and the Medicolegal Society of Ireland. Dr. Gray attends courses and conferences regularly for his continuing professional development. He is a Clinical Lecturer and Tutor in Emergency Medicine at the School of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin (TCD) as well as an Examiner for the College of Emergency Medicine, London. Dr Michael Alexander Dr Michael Alexander is a Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist in the Adelaide and Meath Hospital, Tallaght, Dublin and has been the clinical Head of Department there since 2009. He carries dual accreditation in both Neurology and Neurophysiology, having completed his training at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London and the Royal Free Hospital, London. Dr. Alexander’s subspecialty clinical and research interests lie in traumatic nerve injury, hereditary and acquired neuropathy, the clinical and genetic aspects of Motor Neuron Disease and neuromuscular disorders. Dr. Jean O’Sullivan MB BAO BCH BMedSci (Hons) MRCSEd FCEM Dip Sports & Exercise Med, DFLM Dr. Jean O’Sullivan is a graduate of University College Cork and is currently a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Tallaght Hospital and a lecturer in emergency Medicine at Trinity College Dublin. In 2003 Dr. O’Sullivan was awarded a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and in the same year was awarded the Membership Examination in Accident and Emergency Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. In 2004 she was awarded Membership of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. Dr. O’Sullivan became a Fellow of the College of Emergency Medicine, London in 2008 and in 2012 successfully completed a Diploma in Forensic and Medico-Legal Medicine at University College Dublin. In 2008 Dr. O’Sullivan founded an international charity, Global Emergency Care Skills and has worked extensively throughout Africa. Dr. O’Sullivan is a member of the Medicolegal Society of Ireland and has worked as a medico-legal expert since 2008. She is a Director of Medicolegal Ireland, Dublin. Dr Martin Rochford MB BCh BAO Msc Sports Med DipSEM FACEM Dr Martin Rochford is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Tallaght Hospital and is a graduate of University College Dublin. Dr. Rochford completed the advanced training program in Emergency Medicine in Sydney, Australia and is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine. He has been awarded Membership of the College of Emergency Medicine in London and the Membership of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. Dr Rochford has a special interest in musculoskeletal injury and in Legal Medicine and holds a Masters Degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine from Trinity College. He has also been awarded the Intercollegiate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. Dr. Rochford is a member of the Medicolegal Society of Ireland and has worked as a medicolegal expert since 2009. Mr. Tony O’Connor, BL MB BAO BCH BMedSci (Hons) MRCSEd FCEM Dip Sports & Exercise Med, DFLM Tony O’Connor is a Senior Counsel since 2006 who practised as a solicitor for eight years before joining the Law Library in 1991. He graduated from University College Dublin and completed his masters in Trinity College Dublin. His practice has brought him on Circuit and he practises in all of the Superior Courts now. He has been instructed in many leading cases concerning negligence by medical professionals. Mr O’Connor has acted as a legal assessor for the regulators of health professionals since 2007 and has advised on the EU and State regulation of issues falling with the remit of the HSE, the Health Products Regulatory Authority (formerly the IMB) and HIQA. He is regularly appointed as a Chairperson of Mental Health Tribunals and is a Board member of Concern Worldwide.
