LOW VOLTAGE RESCUE UNIT: HLTAID001 (St John Reference: LVR213) COURSE DURATION: 4.5 hours This course is designed for people working on live or potentially live electrical switchboards and plant at “low voltages” (defined as less than 1000V AC or 1500 V DC). It is specifically tailored to the requirements of the Office of the Technical Regulator whose job it is to oversee electrical safety matters on behalf of the SA Department of Transport Energy and Infrastructure. The requirements to be met are expressed in the Electricity Act 1996 and the Electricity (General) Regulations 1997. This course provides the skills and knowledge to manage a patient following a potential incident involving LV current. It includes managing breathing and non- breathing casualties and includes Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. Please note: it is an assessment requirement of this course that the participant be able to competently perform 2 minutes of continuous adult CPR on the floor. COURSE CONTENT COMPETENCIES • Legal issues and infection control A Statement of Attainment is issued on successful completion of this course for the following units of competency: • DRSABCD Action Plan • Managing the unconscious, breathing patient • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) • Safety rescue from low voltage apparatus - Risk management - Safe approach - Low voltage rescue kit HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation UETTDRRF06B Perform Rescue From a Live LV Panel PRE-REQUISITES Due to the nature of this course, it is highly recommended that participants work or study in the electrical industry. PROVIDED MATERIALS • Personal Protective Equipment (for use in the course) • Low Voltage Rescue publication Participants must be 14 years or older. Participants under 14 years must provide written permission to attend the course from their parent or legal guardian. Participants with a language or literacy difficulty or other special needs should inform the training support staff or trainers so appropriate assistance can be arranged. COMPETENCY RECERTIFICATION As per the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice, First Aiders should attend training on a regular basis to refresh their first aid knowledge and skills and confirm their competence to provide first aid. The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) www.resus.org.au recommends the CPR competency be recertified annually. **NOTE** It may be a requirement of your regulating body that this qualification and CPR is renewed every twelve (12) months. Please be familiar with any requirements in your own industry and/or organisation.
