Vacancy Notice - P/T Librarian Assistant (Children’s Programming and Outreach Specialist),
Hazard Branch
OCPL has one (1) vacancy for a p/t Librarian Assistant position at Hazard Branch, 1620 W. Genesee St., Syracuse,
NY 13204. OCPL is seeking an energetic, creative and passionate individual, who enjoys working with children;
loves to explore new ideas; who understands the importance of programming and outreach; has good people
skills; strives to work towards expanding program opportunities and services; is interested in urban library services.
The position may work up to 17 hours a week depending on the needs of the library.
About the Position:
The position provides weekly programming and outreach services to children age’s infancy to 4 years, and 5 to
12 years old. S/he presents interactive toddler story times and after school story times, as well as activities built
around special days or occasions reflecting OCPL’s vision of nurturing young people’s imagination, skills
development, and love of the library, as well as your enthusiasm for technology in programming. Act as a liaison
between Hazard and various community partners, collaborating with them to bring Hazard’s wealth of
resources to children, enriching their lives and building community. Perform other duties as needed.
Required/Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
o Dedicated to building a strong partnership in our community and possess a demonstrated ability to
work with a wide variety of patrons and library staff
o Detail oriented; prioritize effectively, adapt flexibly to changing priorities, and meet deadlines ensuring
your programs are properly marketed on social media as well through traditional media
o Able to work independently and also with others as a competent team member
o Tech savvy; have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, social media, and expert
searching capabilities for Internet tools
o Excellent in written and verbal communication skills
o Strong customer service skills; friendly and positive outlook; sense of humor
o 1 - 3 years of marketing/communications/event planning experience is preferred
o Polaris catalog experience preferred
Hourly rate: $22.5191/hour; no fringe benefits, except optional NYS Employees Retirement System membership
Minimum Qualification: a Bachelor’s Degree in any subject field from a regionally accredited college or university
