OH-PIGS GENERAL INFORMATION ORGANIZATION The Ohio Pork Council, through their Ohio Showpig Committee, has worked to develop and provide junior swine exhibitors with a program designed to encourage leadership and personal development through competitive livestock shows. OH-PIGS, The Ohio Summer Show Circuit, a youth program of the Ohio pork council, works to provide the best atmosphere for competitive swine shows. It is, by purpose, a competitive program that promotes the advancement of Ohio’s showpig industry through providing consistency and continuity to a show circuit, tools to increase exhibitor knowledge and education, and opportunities for personal development in youth swine exhibitors. OH-PIGS focuses not only on providing opportunities to develop the basics of showing livestock but also the personal attributes of leadership, a strong work ethic, responsibility and sportsmanship. To support and enhance youth opportunities within the pork industry. 2. To encourage and increase youth participation in swine projects. 3. To provide consistency and continuity to jackpot swine shows in OH. 4. To assist swine exhibitors in becoming better prepared for competition at a local, state and national level. 5. To provide an outlet for youth to attain and put into use valuable leadership skills. 6. To assist exhibitors in developing life skills necessary for becoming future leaders in Ohio agriculture. FOR MORE INFORMATION: KELLY MORGAN Manager of Showpig Programs Ohio Pork Council 614-537-7325 :: Mobile 614-882-5887 :: Office [email protected] OH-PIGS GENERAL INFORMATION GENERAL RULES • Points will be accumulated from all sanctioned shows, however overall awards will be based on points earned from the exhibitors top two pigs at one more than 50% of all sanctioned shows. •Exhibitor points will be awarded for 2 pigs in ANY category. (2 market, 2 breeding, 1 market/1 breeding) •Each pig identified will total its own individual points within the circuit. • Pigs must be born on or after December 1, 2014 to accumulate OH-PIGS points. • Health papers are required for all out-of-state animals. • OH-PIGS shows are not terminal, however some shows may provide access to a packer – please contact a show representative regarding opportunities to sell your animals. • Purebred animals will show by breed. - ALL purebreds must meet breed characteristics. All purebreds must show pedigree papers (market or breeding). Purebred classes will be determined by the show committee based upon number of entries on show day. • There will be no AOB classes. • Purebred breeding gilts CANNOT be shown as market gilts. • Crossbred gilts entered as breeding gilts CANNOT be shown as crossbred market gilts. • Crossbred market gilts CANNOT be shown as crossbred breeding gilts. • ALL market animals must declare a weight up to 280 with a 15-pound weigh-back. • All crossbred breeding gilts may weigh up to 345 with a 15-pound weigh-back. • Purebred breeding gilts will show by birthdate. • Any grievance must be presented to Kelly Morgan, or the Ohio Pork Council office ,within 24 hours of the incident, in writing and accompanied by a $100 non-refundable fee. FOR MORE INFORMATION: KELLY MORGAN Manager of Showpig Programs Ohio Pork Council 614-537-7325 :: Mobile 614-882-5887 :: Office [email protected] OH-PIGS GENERAL INFORMATION EXHIBITOR ELIGIBILITY • Exhibitors must be between the ages of 3 and 21, as of January 1, 2015, to accumulate OH-PIGS points. - Exhibitors are required to be a minimum of 3 years old, however, parents are to use their best discretion as to whther or not a child can safely exhibit an animal. A member’s points will NOT count if they have someone helping them in the show ring. This does not apply to double entry in a class, emergency situations, or disabilities that may require adult assistance. • Exhibitors must be a resident of Ohio, an Ohio 4-H member, or an Ohio FFA member to accumulate OH-PIGS points. OH-PIGS MEMBERSHIP • Exhibitors are required to pay an annual $25 membership fee for entry into the OH-PIGS program. • Members must be register and pay prior to exhibiting. OH-PIGS points will not accumulate before you become a member. Underage consumption WILL NOT be tolerated. • Should the OH-PIGS Show Committee find an individual in violation; any or all of the following disciplinary actions may occur. - Forfeiture of points for one or multiple shows. - Dismissal from show. - Denied participation in future OH-PIGS shows and/or programs. BASIC GUIDELINES FOR SANCTIONED SHOW HOSTS • In order to become a sanctioned show in the OH PIGS Circuit, show sponsors must follow the guidelines set forth on running a show, classes, order of show, judges used and point tabulation AND will pay a $250 sanction fee to hold a show. • Shows must follow the guidelines set forth by the OH PIGS Circuit. This provides consistency and continuity to the circuit. • Sanctioned shows of the OH PIGS Circuit must choose a judge from the list of recommended judges provided. An individual may only judge one show on the circuit per year. • ALL entries at sanctioned shows will be 25.00 per head. This does not include double down shows (May 17 and May 23). • All results from the show must be turned into Kelly Morgan, OPC Manager of Showpig Programs, within three (3) days following the show. A template will be provided and must be submitted to [email protected].
