Welcome Address Dear Colleagues, I am very glad to wish you a warm welcome to this Spring Meeting of the Royal Belgian Society for Ear, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck Surgery. This year we have had the opportunity to organize this meeting in the Square Brussels Meeting Centre which provides us interesting spaces to enjoy the scientific program in two nice rooms (Silver and Arc) but also the exhibition of the companies working around our speciality and the human relationships between colleagues of the whole speciality. "Innovation, research and excellence, our best values for future" was the theme chosen for this session. The message was well received by our residents and professors who proposed more than 40 communications for the different Awards (otology-‐audiology; rhinology-‐
allergology; laryngology-‐head and neck surgery and ENT-‐posters). These communications were classified according to the international evidence levels (EL 1,2 or 3) and you will observe the good level of these works. The number of items was so numerous (20) in otology-‐audiology that we had to split this award into an otology award and an audiology award – so one award more. We do thank here AudioNova again for its sponsoring of the audiology award. The struggle will be tough, let the best one win! It is important to recall that the slides must be in English but that the communications can be made either in English, French or Dutch according to the regulations of our society. This year too, you will see some new ideas. The Temporal Bone contest is highlighted by a complete session with anatomical, virtual and endoscopic demonstrations. A Tutorial Video-‐session is scheduled where many professors and colleagues will propose their best video-‐mounting. We are very grateful for this. Finally there is a professional and practical Mini-‐symposium on the problem of ENT endoscope washing. At the end of the day you will be asked to fill out an Appreciation Form regarding your requests and complaints. Unfortunately I have to announce you that times are tough with sponsoring. Pharmaceutical companies are less interested because of the rise of generics or want to cut their costs (Mdeon was not an aid there) while our own costs continue to rise. For a few years now we are not able to end the year in balance. Accordingly we first insist you pay the annual fee in time. Secondly and after long and hard discussions inside the steering committee, we decided to request a registration fee for all our meetings. It allows us to continue to promote the quality of our research for this Spring Meeting and to invite foreign speakers in the Autumn Meeting. Nevertheless I hope to see you numerously and I wish you a very enjoyable and interesting congress.
