JOB DESCRIPTION Family Support Worker, Ubuntu OBSD JOB TITLE: REPORTS TO: SALARY RANGE: HOURS: Family Support Worker, Ubuntu OBSD Ubuntu Manager $44,205-52,006 37.5 hours/week JOB BACKGROUND: Connecting children and families through shared humanity The Ubuntu OBSD (Outcome Based Service Delivery) Program at Boyle Street community services is looking for a professional who is interested in working directly with children and families in North East Edmonton in a shared practice model with partner agencies and Children’s Services. Collectively, with Boyle Street as the lead agency, five agencies were recently awarded the Government of Alberta OBSD (Outcome Based Service Delivery) contract in North East Edmonton, titled Ubuntu. Ubuntu will offer a continuum of culturally competent, community-based, family and child centered services through the networks of trusted service providers and community supports. It is one point of access to a streamlined set of services that has behind it the richness of five networks – Boyle Street Community Services, Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre, and Terra Centre for Teen Parents. JOB PURPOSE: The Family Support Worker is an integral role in the Ubuntu team, and is responsible for working with families to coordinate services and build relationships to achieve their goals. KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Carry a caseload of files and co-develop a Service Plan with children, youth, families, and Caseworker Timely coordination and delivery of services and resources Support families in crisis to impact positive change; including assisting with problem solving, goal planning, and aligning family strengths with service delivery efforts Build positive relationships with children, families, the North East Child and Family Services Neighborhood Office staff, and multi-disciplinary partners to better support families Contribute to a positive team environment by demonstrating the values of accountability, respect, and creativity Responsible for on-call services on a rotation basis Maintain accurate records, files, and documentation to track outcomes QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Degree or equivalent. Candidates with extensive relevant experience will also be considered Skills, aptitudes, and abilities: Ability to work in a fast paced, ever changing, often demanding, sometimes traumatizing environment Able to work effectively as a team as well as independently Flexible and adaptable to change Ability to take risks and work differently in pursuit of innovation and positive outcomes for families Collaborative, reflective, and strength-based approach to practice Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and the ability to facilitate information exchange Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate the needs of children and families Ability to work with children and families from a range of cultures Experience and Knowledge: Three or more years working with families and/or children Understanding of Children and Family services and guiding legislation Knowledge of and experience with Aboriginal and multicultural communities, particularly how they have been affected by the child welfare system, is essential Experience working in and with partnerships and across sectors Knowledge of and experience working with local community resources in North East Edmonton Knowledge of Early Childhood Development, Toxic Stress, and the Social Determinants of Health An understanding of poverty, racism, and marginalization and how and why it impacts those we serve An understanding of, and preferably experience with, the principles of Wraparound and Signs of Safety models Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle, please note that transporting families in personal vehicle is required A recent (within 6 months) Criminal Record Check, Child Welfare Information System check, and drivers abstract Boyle Street Community Services values diversity and welcomes applications from Aboriginal, New Canadian, visible minority, disabled, gay, lesbian, and transgender communities.
