WHAT IT IS
Organization Mandate
LASSA is a settlement and social services agency that started in
1989, as a response to those experiencing forced departure as a
result of internecine strife in war torn Near Eastern countries.
LASSA strives to provide the highest quality services to facilitate
and expedite the settlement and integration of new Canadians in
general and Arabic-speaking ones in particular.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Employment Services - Available under the Job Search Workshops Program JSW funded
by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, delivered in collaboration with the Local Agencies
Serving Immigrants LASI partnership. The service consists of two main components:
• Individual assessment and employment counselling appointments
• The Job Search Workshops: Occupation Blueprint and Job Search
In the JSW, clients get an opportunity to research the local labour market to enable them
to assess their qualifications and build a progressive individualized action plan that suits
their employment and professional development goals.

Bridging to Credentials Assessment Services - The Foreign Credentials Specialist can help
those looking to study and upgrade their education or work in Canada. Services include:
• One-on-one information and orientation concerning different academic and
professional assessment services in Canada.
• Information on continuing education for newcomers educated outside Canada and
on accreditation institutions that receive applications for newcomers.
• Info sessions and in-house workshops regarding foreign credentials.
• Info sessions at partners´ offices, local community services, governmental and nongovernmental agencies, as requested.

Social Services - Settlement and integration services that aim to assist new immigrants and
returning Canadian citizens upon their early arrival to Canada and throughout their
settlement and integration process. We also extend our services to new immigrants before
their arrival and to Canadian Citizens currently residing in Canada. LASSA hosts a weekly
session on Fridays with legal professionals.
Services are provided in Arabic, English, French and Kurdish.
