WHAT IT IS
Organization Mandate
The Ottawa Independent Living Resource Centre (OILRC) is one
of 27 Independent Living Resource Centres in Canada. We are
non-profit organizations, serving people with disabilities in our
communities. The Ottawa Independent Living Centre (OILRC) has
been supporting people with disabilities in the Ottawa
community for more than fifteen years.

Key Programs & Services for Job Seekers
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Contact:
iLEAP - Independent Living Employment Assistance Program - Helps clients become ready
for the workforce by helping them become “work ready,” while also helping to choose the
job path that suits them best; includes resume writing, job interview preparation, job
hunting, and job coaching. Employer support: Job coaching, Preparing for employment,
Training, Progress reports, Assistance with paperwork, Resources to fund accommodations.

Eligibility Criteria: iLeap is for any consumer wishing to find a job, develop a career, or
become a volunteer, even if you have just begun to consider entering the workforce.
Youth Empowerment & Transition - Offers a chance to participate in a variety of activities around health & lifestyle,
employment & education, volunteering & community development, housing & basic needs, and independent living.
Eligibility Criteria: Youth ages 16 to 25 with all/cross disabilities.
OTHER PROGRAMS
Information and Referral - Offers people with disabilities community information through
workshops, Internet access, a resource library, newsletters, telephone referrals and support.

Peer Support - Enables people with disabilities to establish peer contacts to reduce isolation,
share skills, information and support. Methods of delivery include workshops, telephone
support, one-on-one visits, social gatherings and community outings.

Empowerment Skills Development - Enables people with disabilities to develop their
personal capacity to identify barriers, explore options, develop skills and make decisions,
which lead to greater autonomy.

Direct Funding - Enables adults with a physical disability to become employers of their own
attendants. Interviews will be done from time to time as space becomes available in the
