or received into the full communion of the Catholic Church to a celebration of the Eucharist at the
Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King. This year’s celebration takes place on Sunday, April 12 during
the 11:00 a.m. Mass. All are invited to participate in this special liturgy as a sign of welcome to the
newest members of Christ’s Body in our Diocese of Hamilton.
PRAYER VIGIL on Thursday, April 2, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in front of Freeport Hospital, 3570

PRAYING FOR VOCATIONS: If you appreciate priests and religious men and women, please
support them by joining us in praying for vocations. Vocation Saturday is an initiative of the Vocation
Office of the Diocese of Hamilton to gather people from across the diocese to unite in prayer for
vocations. Join us on Saturday, April 18, at St. Michael Church in Waterloo, for 9:00 a.m. Mass and
Holy Hour for Vocations.
IS GOD CALLING YOU TO THE PRIESTHOOD OR RELIGIOUS LIFE? Find out by attending
this upcoming event: discernment group (a monthly morning of prayer, reflection, and lunch):
Saturday, April 18, at St. Michael Church in Waterloo starting at 9:00 a.m.: Mass, Holy Hour,
discernment groups for men and women, and lunch. For more information visit
www.HamiltonVocations.com.
BEWARE THE HOLY SPIRIT: The National Catholic Mission 2015, “Beware the Holy Spirit!”
will be broadcast on VISIONTV on Monday, March 30 (part 1) and Tuesday, March 31 (part 2) at 6:00
p.m. and repeated at 10:00 p.m. It will be hosted by Fr. Pat Fitzpatrick. This year’s mission looks at
when and where God speaks to us in our daily lives and how we, as an institution and as individuals,
can ignore that voice at our peril. In program two, Father Anthony Gittins looks at the afternoon of life
and discovers why it withers some people and brings freedom and joy to others who have learned to age
with wisdom.
The happiest people don’t have the best of everything
– they just make the best of everything.

Because of the large crowds on Easter Sunday, you are encouraged to leave home
earlier than usual to assure yourself a parking space and a seat in the church.
Please be extra cautious on neighbouring residential streets which are affected
by the extra traffic coming to Lourdes – a good idea at any time of the year!
Remember that there is a parking lot at the corner of Alexandra and Roslin for your use. In
addition, you might consider coming to the 7:30 a.m. Easter liturgy.
FINANCE COUNCIL/PROPERTY AND MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE: Thanks to all who
submitted their names for these committees and also as a resource to the council/committees. We had
about 25 general responses with 6 volunteering to actually be part of the council/committee. We are
still short of the full contingent that we were hoping to have so there could be ongoing renewal of
membership. Also, only one woman from the parish put her name forward for the committees. We are
still open to membership names especially for the finance council and are looking for some input from
individuals with knowledge in the area of banking, accounting and legal questions. A greater
representation of women would better represent our parish. Please give this consideration. Yellow
information forms will be available this weekend at the doors of the church or please contact the parish
office. With thanks.
ON HOLY THURSDAY A FOOT-WASHING RITUAL is incorporated
into the liturgy of the Mass of the Lord`s Supper. It is as powerful a
symbol in the present day as it was at its scriptural roots in the
thirteenth chapter of the gospel of John, when Jesus himself washes
his disciples’ feet. It is a symbol of humble service, given the
extreme indignity involved in washing feet in the ancient world, a
task usually reserved for the lowest slave of the house. Indeed,
Jesus’ own explicit words seem to present it as such: “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have
washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an
example, that you also should do as I have done to you” (Jn. 13:14-15). Volunteers are still
needed for the foot-washing ritual here at Lourdes on Holy Thursday, April 2. Those
interested in participating are asked to contact the parish office.
HOLY WEEK – THE TRIDUUM
The liturgy of the Lord`s Supper on Holy Thursday, the liturgy of Good Friday and the
great Easter Vigil are really different parts of one continuous celebration of the drama of
salvation. They are among the outstanding spiritual riches of the Church. The Easter Vigil
is the most magnificent liturgy of the whole liturgical year! You are invited to participate
in and prayerfully celebrate this enriching liturgy. The full Holy Week schedule is shown
below.
Holy Thursday, April 2: Mass of the Lord`s Supper at 7:30 p.m.
The church will be open until 10:00 p.m. as we keep watch in prayer in the spirit of Gethsemane.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament ends at 10:00 p.m. with Night Prayer.
Good Friday, April 3
11:00 a.m. .... Celebration of the Lord’s Passion with veneration of the Cross.
(This liturgy is simplified and thus more suited to families with children.)
3:00 p.m. ...... Solemn Celebration of the Lord’s Passion with veneration of the
Cross, and Holy Communion
Holy Saturday, April 4: Easter Vigil at 8:00 p.m.
Easter Sunday, April 5: Mass at 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. & 11:30 a.m.
Attention Ushers for Holy Week: Thank you to those who have volunteered to serve as
ministers of hospitality (ushers) on Good Friday, at the Easter Vigil and on Easter Sunday.
Your attendance thirty minutes prior to the start of each liturgy would be very much appreciated.
YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND THE MASS OF CHRISM on Monday, March 30 at Cathedral
Basilica of Christ the King, Hamilton, at 7:00 p.m. The Bishop will bless the oils of Chrism, of the sick
and of the catechumens to be used in the sacramental ministry in the parishes of our diocese during the
coming year.
