Sousa announces investment to kick start Lakeview revitalization project
People to benefit with access to former OPG lands, western pier,
plus greater connectivity to lakefront trains
Mississauga – Charles Sousa, MPP for Mississauga South, today announced
funding for the first phase of Lakeview revitalization project which, when
completed, will transform the city’s lakeshore for the benefit of everyone in
Mississauga.
The $450,000 investment will kick-start the project, eventually allowing people
access to the western pier on former OPG lands and greater connectivity to
lakefront trails.
Future plans include a potential spur connecting the western pier to Lakefront
Promenade Park, as well as a floating bridge. Today’s funding announcement
will allow for important preliminary work to allow the project to get to the detailed
design phase. The work being funded today will include:
 A risk assessment of the proposed route, including a Remediation Action
Plan and supplementary testing north of the pier
 Immediate clean-up of the identified area; and
 A structural assessment of the pier for longevity and structural capacity
Today’s announcement stems from the Inspiration Lakeview consultation
process, during which residents identified access to the western pier as a priority
to them. Access to the pier would create with greater connectivity to the lakefront
trails and the opportunity for panoramic views of Mississauga’s Lake Ontario
shoreline.
