Event Information
Race Numbers
Your competitor numbers will be issued at the event registration.
You will each receive:
1 pin on number (please provide your own safety pins), please fill in medical details on the back.
1 x Tri Set: labels for the bike seat post , Luggage label , Supporter label, helmet label , Handle bar label and a spare
label, these must be attached before racking your bike.
1 x Chip timer (please put this on your ankle before the event starts)
You must wear your pin on number at all times, please see the British Triathlon Rule: 12.3 (page 17), for the cycle
your number must be on the back and for the run it must be on the front.
N.B. If you have a medical condition, please mark both numbers with a red cross on the front of the number and
provide full details of your condition in ink on the reverse.
Registration and Starting Time
The start times will be posted on www.pendletriclub.co.uk on Monday the 4th of May 2015, you will also receive your
start time via email.
Please arrive 1hr before your start time and report to the registration desk, situated in the marquee next to the front
doors of the sports centre.
You will not be permitted to park on the sports centre car park, please use surrounding car parks:

Prior to registration you are advised to check where the swim pool is, transition and the finish line is, as well as
familiarising yourself with the routes.
Prior to the event, please check your cycle is road-worthy; GO VELO will be offering bike checks on the day.
Once you have collected your information from Registration please make your way to the Transition Area, where you
can rack your bike and get set up for your wave. Only Participants will be allowed in the transition area, No
family/friends will be allowed. To gain access to the transition area you will be required to show your race number.
Please keep belongings to a minimum in Transition; you will not be permitted to take in big gym bags.
Please make your way to the small pool 20 minutes before your start time to receive the race brief and where you can
warm up before your swim if you wish.
Clothes Storage and Changing.
There is ample locker space and changing facilities are available at West Craven Sports Centre. Please be aware
Pendle Leisure Trust does not accept responsibility for any items left unattended and not placed securely in a locker.
If you wish to enter transition at any point before the start of the event you must have your event number to hand to be
granted access.

Rules
The event has been organised by Pendle Triathlon Club and is a registered event of Triathlon England. If you are not
familiar with the event rules please visit www.britishtriathlon.org prior to the event. Or follow this link:

The Swim
Competitors need to make their way to the poolside 20 minutes before their start time. Stewards will be on poolside to
count the numbers of lengths completed, however it is the participants responsibility to count their own lengths, the
counters are there to assist. The pool will be sectioned off into 4 lanes and you are expected to “chain” swim i.e. swim
lengths. Backstroke and wetsuits are not allowed.
Tumble turns are not permitted, if you catch the person in front of you, tap them on the feet to let them know you wish
to pass them at the end of the length.
Please note: It is advised to bring suitable footwear to wear from poolside to transition.
The Cycle
Cyclists will be required to provide themselves with protective headgear to A.N.S.I, S.N.L.L or B.S.I standards and
must be worn at all times during the cycle.
Prior to the event, please ensure that:
(i) You are wearing protective headgear and your number is visible on your back.
(ii) Your competitor frame number is attached to your cycle
Cycle instructions:
1. Ride straight on at all junctions unless directed by a marshal
2. The circuit is all left handed turns
3. Competitors must not be followed by people on bikes or in cars and must not receive assistance other than
that from authorised Triathlon personnel
4. Pacing or drafting is not allowed
5. The circuit, as indicated on the enclosed map, is to be completed twice
6. Cyclists are reminded of the need to abide by the Highway Code – this includes stopping at any traffic lights if
on red and to cycle safely. Failure to abide by the Highway Code will result in immediate disqualification.
The Traffic Lights at the Rainhall Road junction will not be manned by Police; there will be Marshalls on the junction,
who will note any competitors numbers if you don’t abide by the Highway Code.
Please also be aware that there will be no Marshalls from the start of the Cycle up until the Thornton in Craven
Junction, if you witness an accident please inform the nearest marshall that you see.
The Run
Competitors must ensure that their run number is visible from the front during the run.
When returning to the Sports Centre on the main road, please ensure that you run on the footpath.
The Finish
The finish line is in the car park of the sports centre, please follow the marshalls directions and run through the finish
gantry and over the last chip timing mat.
Whalley sports massage will be providing pre and post race massages.

Refreshments
Refreshments will be available from the café in the pool spectator area and there will be a water station at the Finish.
Medical Aid
First Aid will be available at the sports centre and out on the bike course. This will be supported by the Colne First
aider Volunteers. This is primarily for injured or distressed competitors.
Weather
Unfortunately we cannot book the weather for the event, please be aware that if the weather is torrential the event
could be reduced to a swim and run (Aquathlon).
Your Final Preparation
On the day, remember to bring with you:
1. Tri suit, Swimming trunks/costume, towel etc.
2. Running shoes, socks, vest, waterproofs and shorts
3. Roadworthy cycle, helmet and clothing to suit
4. Warm clothing for after the event
On the day ensure you have a light, easily digested meal no less than three hours before your start time.

Next Year’s event date will be on Sunday 8th May 2016, Entries will open after the event on
the 10th May.

Whalley sports massage
Graham at Whalley Sports Massage offers hourly appointments at his treatment rooms throughout the week
from 9am to 9pm providing a bespoke consultation, assessment and treatment plan for local athletes.
Graham will be providing a onsite sports massage service. Therapists will be attending the event and will be on site
from 8am providing pre or post event massages for competitors.
If you have never considered a sports massage at an event here is a brief overview of the benefits:
 Pre event massage - Oxygenates your muscles to get them ready to perform at their peak during the event,
also relaxes muscles to enabling your joints to achieve their full range of movement
 Post event massage - Flushes toxins and lactic acid from your body enabling quicker recovery and reducing
muscle soreness
Massages last for at least 10 minutes and cost £5, to guarantee your massage you can book a slot prior to the event

Competitors are asked to carry out the following checklist on their bike prior to the event.

- for cracks in tubes or lugs

- for tightness of seat pillar in frame
-for tightness of saddle fixing itself
Handlebars - for tightness of the handlebar stern in frame
- for tightness of handlebars in stern
Brakes
- that there is no wheel rotation when applied and clear rims when released
-tightness of fixing to frame
-wear of brake blocks and tightness of fixing nuts
- wear of cables
- tightness of fixing levels to the handlebars
Bearings
- for play or tightness on the bottom bracket or headset (steering)
Chain set
- tightness of chain wheel bolts and cotter less axel bolts if used
Pedals,

Gears
- all fixings
- operation, particularly for over-shooting on top and bottom gears
