Adjournment PIHL Board of Governors Meeting Meeting Minutes January 14, 2015 Sebastian called the meeting to order at 7:00pm Sebastian announced that no one had stepped forward to be the Secretary of the PIHL. He asked if there were any nominations from the floor. No one was nominated. He explained the importance of filling the position now instead of waiting for the April elections because of potential quorum issues at EC meetings. Sebastian also brought up the untimely death of Duane Foy an announced that West Allegheny has set up a fund for contributions. Fryer reviewed the online meeting information Officer reports: Report from Secretary- Mucha asked for a review of the minutes from the previous BOG meeting. Butler motioned to approve the minutes and Kiski Area seconded the motion. The motion passed. Report from Treasurer- Mucha reviewed the 2013 tax return and compared it to the 2012 tax return. In 2012 the PIHL lost $31,480. In 2013 the PIHL showed a profit of $28,116. The increase in profits was driven by better cost controls. 2014 is on pace to achieve the budgeted goals. Potential issues in achieving the budget include the playoffs and the America’s Showcase. Report from Commissioner’s OfficeCompetition- Black reviewed the game results comparing October 2014 to December 2014. The overall level of competitive games continues to improve. Sportsmanship- Black continued to stress the importance of sportsmanship from coaches, players, and parents. Black then showed a sportsmanship video. Scheduling- Black reviewed the rescheduling policy and the need to get games in as they are scheduled. PIHL websites- Fryer announced that Pihlhockey.com will be used next year as the primary website. Most information has already been moved to the site. Fryer asked that if any members had suggestions for the website to let him know. Senior night ceremonies- Fryer reviewed the guidelines for senior recognition nights. A list of approved senior nights is on the website. Association Data Forms- Fryer reviewed the new simpler forms. Registration-Borkoski explained that turnaround time with USA Hockey has improved and we do not expect the same delays next year. Borkoski reviewed the many issues with screening that occurred this season. With all of the registration issues this year the PIHL still had the second best results thanks to the hard work of the Registrars. The book checks will start January 26th and the newest rosters must be used. For the book checks have the game verification sheets filled out in game order. Let Borkoski know via email if a team is opting out of the JV or Middle school playoffs. Two ongoing issues, a head coach must be listed for each team, and managers must be listed, and have completed Safesport and a clearance. Report from All-Star CommitteeFryer announced that the coaches had completed their online nominations and that the voting will begin on January 15th, also online. Roster announcements will be made live on January 21st. Fryer will be sending out a link to the associations so everyone can watch the announcements live. The four games will be played on February 8th at RMU. Fryer recognized the Chairman of the committee Mike Bagnato. Playoff Committee Black reviewed the process for the playoff seeding meetings that will be held via conference calls on February 28th. Times and call in numbers to be announced. Division 2 Championship game will be played on March 19th at RMU at 8:00pm. Penguin Cup Finals will be played on Saturday March 14th. Black announced the players of the month for November and December General OrdersSebastian spoke with Sally Figas by phone and she would be interested in serving out the remaining secretary’s term. Elizabeth Forward made a motion and Armstrong seconded it to approve Sally Figas as Secretary. A voice vote was held for those in the auditorium and Figas was approved. Sebastian announced he will be meeting with the Penguins and the PAHL to discuss split season teams for midget and possible bantam teams. Long range planning Black reviewed some of the items being discussed. Realignment is moving into Phase 2. Co-ops and call-ups are being reviewed. The possibility of online registration is being discussed. Administration policies compared to playing rules hope to be clarified. Software for scheduling is also being looked at. JV and Middle School Tournament- Fryer stated that there will probably be 4 divisions at both JV and MS. Teams will have the option of playing up a division. Brackets will be based on the number of teams in each bracket. The semifinals and finals will be played at Ice Castle. Fryer would like teams to commit by the middle of February. An exact date will be sent out later. Semifinals will be played March 16, 17, & 18. The Middle School finals will be on March 23rd and JV finals on March 24th. The cost per game per team will be $395 for JV and $385 for Middle School. There will be no admission fees for the games. Teams that opt in for the tournament will be required to have their game sheets verified and a new roster signed by the appropriate school principals. New business Black announced that in February the meetings will be held by region. There will not be a BOG meeting. The April Annual Meeting will be held April 29th at 7:00pm. Borkoski asked that teams not schedule scrimmages with Linsley. They do not have any approved coaches on their rosters. Montour made a motion and Elizabeth Forward seconded it that the3 meeting be adjourned.
