Spurred by the future removal of the Viaduct, the MarketFront expansion provides
the unique opportunity to
complete an important chapter in the Market’s past, and
create a new chapter—one
with dynamic public space,
more room for farm and craft
vendors, food retailing, lowincome housing for seniors,
and a future pedestrian connection to the waterfront.
Join Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, Pike Place Market PDA
Council, Pike Place Market
Foundation Board, Friends
of the Market, Pike Up! supporters, and other members of
the Market community in celebrating this historic occasion.
Be a Groundbreaking
Piggybacker
Donate to the Pike Up! campaign to build the new MarketFront before May 10 and go
down into Pike Place Market
history as a “Groundbreaking
Piggybacker.” Special recognition for these donors will
take place during the Groundbreaking ceremony, in print in
an 8-page insert in the Puget
Sound Business Journal, and
online on pikeup.org and on
the Market Foundation’s social media channels.
Help build more of the Market you love! That’s more
farmers, artists, restaurants,
senior housing and community services.
Learn more about the MarketFront and how you can get
involved at www.pikeup.org.
The ceremony will be held at
the future site of the MarketFront, in the Desimone Parking Lot (1501 Western Ave.).
40+ Tents on Pike Place for
Flower Festival May 9 - 10
Tents and bouquets will fill
Pike Place when 40 or more
Market farmers participate in
Flower Festival, which occurs
each year on Mother’s Day
weekend. Tents will line the
full length of Pike Place, from
the elbow of Pike Street/Pike
Place to Virginia Street. Tents
will be set up the evening of
Friday, May 8, and stay up
throughout the weekend.
We intend to keep one
lane open for vehicle traffic;
Market Security will close the
street at First & Pike for public
safety if necessary. If you
have questions about Flower
Festival, please call Zack Cook
at the PDA, 206-774-5291.

No Smoking within 25
Feet of Building
Entrances
As a reminder, no smoking
is allowed inside buildings or
within 25 feet of entrances,
exits, windows, and air
intakes to ensure that smoke
does not enter into buildings
(RCW 70.160). King County
law further prohibits the use
of electronic cigarettes in
all places where smoking is
prohibited by state law. For
a copy of a no smoking sign
you can print and post, email
[email protected].
Food & Compostables
Not Allowed in Garbage
Food
and
compostable
materials are not allowed to be
mixed with garbage in the City
of Seattle. Please remember
to sort your refuse properly
and train your staff to do so
as well. Starting next year,
the City will impose fines on
businesses and residents with
garbage containing too much
recyclable or compostable
material. For information
on recycling/composting in
your building,, contact your
property manager or building
manager.

Introducing Our Fabric
Stash
Please welcome Deborah
and Gary Boone, owners of
Our Fabric Stash. They
previously had a retail space
in the International District,
but relocated to the Market
and opened in April in the
Economy Atrium (in the
old Outfitters space). They
specialize in the consignment
and resale of designer fabrics,
notions, and goods made from
repurposed items. Sewing
classes and tailoring services
are also offered. Welcome
to the Market, Deborah and
Gary!
Farewell to Sabra
Zena Lulu and Danny
Wakgira of Sabra recently
sold their Mediterranean food
business. Zena has been the
constant smiling face and chef
since opening for business
in 2003. Zena said that she
really enjoyed her customers
and will miss the many who
were regulars at her shop.
The new owner will be doing
business as Country Dough
and has been approved
for Szechwan style stuffed
flatbreads (known as guo kui)
and noodles.
Promote Your In-Store
Event on the Market’s
Website

event in your store? Remember
that you can submit events to
the Market’s website. Visit

Let us Know if
Overcrowding is Blocking
Your Business
Every summer, crowds
start to jam the sidewalks
and walkways, sometimes
blocking access to stores. We
want to help you keep your
doors open. Please contact
PDA commercial staff if you
have a chronic problem with
customer lines from other
businesses or tour groups.
