President's Message:
What World Travellers We Are!
Sadly Ken Kuhl passed away and we will celebrate his
life at his funeral on Friday 27 February. Ken was
made welcome and enjoyed coming to the shed. It is
nice to know that we were there to be a positive part of
his life.
On a happier note, we are steadily moving ahead with
Planning and growing funds for the big shed. Thanks
to John Schuhmann for long hours and great input.
Our sincere thanks to Julian Parsons, Manager of Site
Surveys, and two staff members Liam Burgess and
Corrie Schuhmann for giving up their time last
Saturday to Survey and peg the site.
Big Tony will be away for about 4 weeks so if there is
a budding Chef in the group who can help Wayne or
give him a break it would be most appreciated.
Pine Rivers Show is on July 31 st & August 1 & 2, and
once again we have a display area. We need toys and
other items to sell. Please see Ian Lambert
(Wednesdays) and John Balloch (Wednesdays &
Fridays) if you can help making items. CHECK with
Ian or John before you make anything. We are NOT
going to paint toys. See Ian or John if you want to put
your name down to work on the show display.
Thanks to everybody – you are doing a great job.... Sal
B.
America, Singapore, Fiji, Canada, New Zealand!
These are just some of the destinations that our
members have travelled to over recent months as
evidenced by the "souvenir" coins that have turned up
in our daily attendance money box.
Unfortunately, these currencies are not legal tender in
Australia, and the banks and my local coffee shop are
refusing to accept them when I try to sneak them in by
depositing them in our bank account or trying to pay
for a coffee.
So, please by all means share your overseas sojourns
with fellow members at the Shed, but do not cheat
your Shed by slipping your left-over coins in as part of
your fee.
Use of Oxy Acetylene Welding Equipment:
We have received a letter from Trevor Ruthenberg
who has resigned as a Patron on our Shed, as he is no
longer the State Member for Kallangur.
We would like to thank Trevor for his patronage and
wish him well in his future endeavours
Anyone using the equipment for their personal use are
requested to contribute a reasonable amount to cover
the cost of gasses and rental.
Please see the Team Leader on the day of use.
“Safety is everyone's responsibility – it’s your own
or your mate’s body you may be saving from
serious damage, and remember that we now take
longer to heal than we did when we were younger.”
New Members:
We have 5 new members this month - Paul Bartlett,
Ben Lennane, Bill Walker, Bruce Walker and Brian
Matthews. Welcome to the PRMS.
PRMS Patron
Health Wishes:
To all of those people who are unwell at this time,
please accept our sincere wishes of a speedy recovery.
If you are aware of anyone who is unwell, please add
their name to the Notice Board on Level 2 of your
Shed, so that Members can get in contact if they wish.
Barefoot Bowls Day:
Members and guests had a really good time at the
Barefoot Bowls Day at the Pine Rivers Bowls Club on
Thursday 26th February. As only a couple of blokes
really knew how to play, there were quite a few
misguided bowls rolling across the green, with the
biased bowls catching quite a few people out; but the
event was not about how good you could play, but
how many times you could fluke getting your bowl
close to the kitty. As well as the game, there was a
meal, dessert, and a drink - all for only $15. Bargain!
Thank you to Mike Nicholson for a great day.
Special thanks to:
Burpengary Mobile Mechanical
Air Lifters Project
Bill Jorgensen and the team are adding valuable funds
to the Shed via the Air Lifters Project. The jobs keep
flowing in steadily. Anyone who would like to get
involved in the team, please see Bill.
Our House Co-ordinator
House Co-ordinator Peter Crittle does great work
cleaning and tidying our Shed. He may ask anyone at
random to help with a simple cleaning task, so please
assist to ensure the house is kept clean, healthy and
safe.
Brendale Pharmacy:
The Brendale Pharmacy kindly donated supplies to
enable us to update our First Aid Kits. They can be
found at 13a/14-16 Kremzow Rd, Brendale.
Bendigo Bank:
The Bendigo Bank awarded us a grant to enable us to
purchase our new printer. Please see their website to
locate a branch near you for your banking needs.
Sausage Sizzle Dates:
Frankie McGuigan is now the co-ordinator for the
Sausage Sizzles. Please talk to him if you need to
know something. Ph: 3285 8423 or 0419 708 864.
Bunnings Gift Vouchers
We have received vouchers from Bunnings Brendale
for helping them build furniture. Many thanks to the
members who participated.

Sausage Sizzles are held every Tuesday at
Bunnings North Lakes, commencing at
8.00am.
New Polo shirts for Shed Members:
The new Polo shirts are still available for only $30.00.
If you want your name embroidered, John Glen’s
wife will do it for $5.00. Ph. 3889 6452.
A full range of sizes is available so if you want one
please add your Name, Size (and Number required) to
the list on the Notice Board upstairs, and Lenny Dyer
will arrange to get one for you.
Photography Group:
We are starting again early 2015. Anyone interested
can send a message to:
[email protected] and I will
collate and send on to Peter Cowell. Let us know your
preferences for meeting frequency, times and activities
so that we can organize when to meet.
Birthdays and Anniversaries:
To any who are celebrating this month, best wishes
from all at the Shed.
Thanks again to all those who staff the Sausage
Sizzles. The money we make is doing a good job of
moving us towards the target of putting up the new
Shed and buying new equipment for our Sheds.
The lists of dates and times are always on the
clipboard adjacent the notice board upstairs for
you to add your name. Please find some time to
help your mates raise some money towards the
future of YOUR Shed.

Have you changed...?
Australian Men's Shed Association:
If you have changed your address, phone number(s),
email address, or emergency contact details, and have
not advised us, could you please contact Ian Miller,
our Membership Officer, on 0430 359 358, or send
him an email to [email protected]

have never completed the relevant form, it is a good
idea to do so in case the paramedics have to be called
for you. Ian Miller can help you with a form, and
remember that the details are kept safe, and are for
paramedics use only.

The Shed Online
If you haven't checked out this new community networking site through AMSA, then go to:
http://www.theshedonline.org.au
You can also go to the AMSA website, and click on
the Shed Forum link to access the Shed Online.
This is where blokes can connect with other blokes,
make new mates, share skills and seek information on
health and wellbeing. It is very easy to become a
member of this online shed.
Are you interested in participating in a Research
Project and possibly winning an iPad or $500?
A national research project is currently underway
examining the social connections of older Australians
and what interventions work to reduce social isolation.
The research project is seeking the experiences and
views of older Australians aged 65 years and over
living in the community (not residential care).
To take part in the survey, you can complete the
survey online at:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/social_connection
or alternatively a paper copy of the survey can be
mailed to you. Call Debbie Faulkner on FREECALL
1800 789 199. Survey closes on 31 March 2015.
A past event at our Shed...
A Beginner's Kitchen:
Sandy Norton, from the Whittlesea Men's Shed, has
put together a cook book called 'A Beginner's Kitchen'.
It can be seen in the 'Health' Section of the AMSA
website, and is a manual for shopping and cooking
meals on a budget. 'It is not intended to make a Chef
of the user; its purpose is to encourage confidence and
prepare healthy meals at home on a budget rather than
take the easy option of expensive convenience food'.
You can just adjust the quantity of ingredients for the
number of diners. Check out on the AMSA website...

Something different - definitely beats looking at old
blokes!
