Brownfields Assessment Project – Update

Project Background - The Brownfields
Assessment Project led by the SF Department of the Environment,
began in late Fall 2013. The Project’s aim is to select several
Brownfields sites in the southeast sector of San Francisco to be
evaluated for potential reuse and development. These sites may
become part of the City’s Blue Greenway, which is being developed
along the southeastern waterfront from AT&T Park to Candlestick Park.
The Project consists of Phase I, identifying possible sites for review and
prioritization; and Phase II, selection of sites for an in-depth review and
laboratory analysis of soil and ground water contamination.
Update
As of February 2015, a matrix of the sites being considered has been
developed. This matrix received input from the impacted community
via two community-wide meetings and two bus tours during which
members of the Community Advisory Committee visited several
potential sites.

Currently, one site, 61 Napoleon St. Connection, adjacent to Islais
Creek, is being considered for Phase One review. Also, permission to
look at 2495 Jennings Avenue, 1301 Yosemite Avenue, and 1296
Armstrong Avenue is being pursued. Additional sites may be considered
in order to have a minimum group size of 5 to 8 sites. The most recent
community meeting was held March 30, 2015.
