First day of school in the fall is Tuesday, September 8, 2015 (HALF DAY) MISSION STATEMENT Hello Patton Families! It is hard to believe that the school year is almost over! This year’s end brings with it a tremendous sense of accomplishment. To our outgoing fifth graders I say congratulations on your achievement. I want to thank our wonderful, outgoing PTO president, Melissa Kloposki, for her excellent leadership and support. Without her, so many of our activities and events would not have happened. Thank you also to the parents and staff whose volunteerism and attention to detail helped make the events successful. Without your spirited support and dedication, we would not be able to have such wonderful and successful school activities. Activities and events are part of the fun of schooling. It doesn’t happen without parent support. I am looking for people to help rebuild the PTO next year. I need people who are interested in planning, organizing and participating in Fall through Spring events for our students. If you can assist or just share some ideas, please contact me. Before we close the school year, I would like to take this opportunity to THANK Kathy Laga, Patton secretary and friend, who has greeted, assisted, bandaged and cared for Roseville students for seventeen years. Please stop in and share best wishes as she applies her passion and enthusiasm to retirement. We will all miss you! To all our Patton families and staff, I wish you a happy, fun-filled summer and look forward to collaborating with you on another successful school year. Ms. Williams, Principal The Mission of the Roseville Community Schools and Patton Elementary in a cooperative partnership with students, the home, and the community, is to develop lifelong learners prepared to meet the challenges of the future. Roseville Community Schools Board of Education Theresa Genest, President Alfredo Francesconi, Vice President Gregory Scott, Secretary Matthew McCartney, Treasurer Joseph DeFelice, Trustee Ruth Green, Trustee Kevin Switanowski, Trustee John Kment, Superintendent The Patton office will be open for registrations on Monday, August 24, 2015. For registration information during the summer months, please contact 586-445-5510 Visit Roseville Community Schools websites at: http://www.rcs.misd.net Goodbye from Mrs. Laga With mixed emotions, I announce this is my last year at Patton. As of June 18th, I will be retiring. I've enjoyed a 17 year career as an elementary secretary with Roseville Community Schools. I started at Patton, then moved to Alumni Elementary for five years and was fortunate to be able to return to Patton to finish my career. I've had the pleasure of working with five different Principals during this time. I started with Mrs. Swanson, followed by Mrs. Glynn and Ms. Bucci. Then came Dr. Wightman. I believe I worked for him the longest. This year, I have had the pleasure of working with Ms. Williams as she has begun her Principal career. They were all so different, yet enjoyable. Every day brought new challenges and things to make my day go by quickly, whether I was dealing with staff, students or parents. There was always something new to learn. Working in a school gives you a perspective that most people never see. The dedication and love the staff have for their students is not truly appreciated by the general public. I will miss all of you a lot. Working so closely with both Principals and staff for so many years makes you view them like family — and I've had wonderful families! Good Citizens for May, 2015 The following students were selected by their teacher as Good Citizens for the month of May. On May 29th, these students enjoyed pizza with Ms. Williams as their reward. Kdg – Mrs. Komarowski & Miss Rusnica James Jefferson & Parker Mastrogiovanni Kdg – Miss Thill McKenzie Mayfield & Leo Phan 1st Grade – Mrs. Pantaleo A’Mila Barksdale-Love & Samantha Walzak 1st Grade – Mrs. Meesseman Mathieu Lamorand & Christian Wroblewski 2nd Grade – Mrs. Cozzolino Starr Klein & Paris-Dior Tolliver 2nd/3rd Split - Mrs. Slisinger Mohamad Shkoukani & Lina Yousef 3rd Grade – Mrs. McCurdy Naiya Allison & Lilianna Campa 4th Grade – Ms. Gaska Leonard Curry & Chloe Flicker 5th Grade – Mr. Geldhof Isabelle Flicker & Taylor Gipson I have so enjoyed students coming back after high school graduation with the challenge "Do you remember me?" Sometimes the face would look familiar. Sometimes I could pull out a name, other times I could not. But once the students reminded me, their name would set off a flurry of memories. All those years and all of those names . . . It is so rewarding to see how our students have matured. To all of the Patton and Alumni parents, I hope you remember me as friendly and helpful. That's what I always strived to be. Working with all of you these years has become a big part of my life. I don't think it is going to be easily filled at first, but I'm going to try. As I head into retirement, I think the things I will enjoy most are sleeping in later and having more time to do the things I want to do. A less structured day is looking very appealing. Spending time with my children and grandchildren (both in and out of state) will be on my list as well as enjoying our country home even more. I hope when all of you look back on the time I was the secretary at your school, you will remember me fondly as I will remember you. This was the best career! Mrs. Kathy Laga Patton School Secretary Thank you to Hungry Howie’s Pizza at 12 Mile & Utica for donating the pizza for our Pizza with the Principal. Music Concert Grades: 1st, 2/3 split, 3rd & 5th Tuesday, June 2nd 2:00 p.m. Patton Gymnasium A big "Thank You!" to all the parents who have sent in Box Tops and Campbell's Soup Labels this year. With the money earned, we have purchased playground equipment for each classroom. We were able to purchase rubber balls, basketballs, footballs, jump ropes and hula hoops. These will be available for the students in the fall. Next year, we will discontinue collecting the Campbell's Soup Labels, as we have found it not to be lucrative for our small school. We will, however, continue collecting Box Tops. Each box top collected earns us 10 cents in cash. Try to make clipping box tops part of your routine when preparing meals. There is no need to purchase any special items, as you probably have some in your pantry right now! It is very easy and profitable for our school, and all of the money will go directly back to the students. Please continue collecting over the summer! Ask family and friends to clip box tops too. If every student collected 20 box tops, our school would earn over $400. Thank you for your continued support throughout the year and keep on clipping! Mrs. Pantaleo
