Dear Parents, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents for their support and understanding during the water interrup ons that the school has unfortunately experienced this past week. As a school we are working very hard to be approachable and to ensure that as parents you are an important part of your children’s educa on. If you feel that something has been mishandled then please do come in to see us about it. We promise that we will take your concerns seriously. Please could I ask that you come in and discuss any problems with the appropriate member of staff and not to use Facebook or other digital media to air a grievance. The Reddam House Waterfall Parents Forum is not an officially recognized by Reddam House Water‐
fall Estate. It really is hugely discouraging for staff, has a poten ally massive au‐
dience and worst of all does not afford us with an opportunity to respond. Should you wish to follow Reddam House Waterfall Estate on Facebook you are welcome to like our official page. The Parents and Friends Forum is the official link between the parent body and the Headmistress. I would like to thank the number of parents who have al‐
ready offered their mo va on to represent their Grade at the Parents and Friends Forum. I would like to remind other parents who are interested in be‐
coming involved in a posi ve way that the closing date for submissions is Thurs‐
day 30 April 2015. Corner of

Reddam House Waterfall Estate celebrated World
Earth Day on 22 April 2015. We planted 23 Wild
Olive trees to commemorate the day. Each Junior
Preparatory class was given their own tree to plant
and care for. This will be a wonderful opportunity
for our children as they will get to see their tree
grow and flourish just as they will at Reddam House Waterfall Estate.
A special thank you to Mrs Candice James for arranging the trees for
us and to City Parks for donating the trees to Reddam House Waterfall Estate.

Wishes
As we were doing the ‘sh’ sound in phonics,
we asked the children to write down one wish
in a star template for homework in order to
consolidate what they had learnt.
While marking their homework I thoroughly enjoyed reading their wishes. I decided to ask
them to rewrite their wishes so that they could
be displayed in the classroom. They all came
up with such different and wonderful ideas.
This was such a lovely activity to get to know
the children in my class a little bit more.

COLLEGE PHYSICAL SCIENCE CLASSROOM
In Physical Science we strive to give students a diversity of experiential learning interspersed with the essential theory that is
required to excel in matric. As far as is safely possible, experiments are conducted and students are given the opportunity to
study complex concepts through analogy and in some sort of
physical way.
The Grade 10s have been exploring chemical reactivity. They
have had to understand about 60
different chemical reactions. The
skill of balancing equations and observation are tested in this section.
A number of the experiments were
done in class. The group were then
able to make their observations first
hand and document trends in the
type of reactions that specific elements undergo.
Tebi ices carefully while Sefa just smiles The Grade 11 group is studying chemical reactions and mole ratios. This week the class
were introduced to the challenging concept of limiting reagents. We made Marie biscuit men
in order for the concept to be more concrete. Ratio is often a challenging mathematical concept to apply to chemistry. However, by first applying the ratio skills to food, students are
better able to transfer the methodology to more complicated chemical equations. Students
were also able to understand the concept of excess reagents from this activity. They were
only allowed to eat the products and they were not allowed to eat the excess reactants.
The Grade 12 class have just finished learning about conservation of momentum. They were
expected to analyse a number of ‘direct measurement’ videos of real life collisions, to establish if linear momentum is indeed conserved in a closed system. The videos are filmed at 240
frames per second, which allows for very accurate time
and distance measurements. Consolidating concepts in
this way ensures that students are able to see how the
theoretical equations that they have been taught can
be applied in reality.

Dance in Grade 5 This term, Dance Studies began with excitement as the dancers started with rehearsals for the Produc on next term. The produc on that will be taking place is Seussical JR. Seussical is a musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty based on the books of Dr. Seuss (mainly "Horton Hears a Who!", "Horton Hatches the Egg" and "Miss Gertrude McFuzz") Opportuni es of developing crea ve expression, aesthe c percep on, teamwork and self‐
esteem are experienced when learning choreography. When performing a dance it allows ownership of space, enjoyment, presenta on and interpreta on of the music. A er being taught a varia on of steps and pu ng them together in a sequence, it challenges the danc‐
ers to memorise the steps and not rely on their peers for help. It was deligh ul to see their eagerness and concentra on while learning their dance rou nes. The dancers are excited to portray the characters from the popular Dr. Seuss books. This musical provides wonderful crea ve opportuni es. The dance rou nes will incorporate what they have learnt throughout the year thus far and they will be challenged with new steps and styles of dance. I look forward to seeing the dancers grow this term and am excit‐
ed to see everything unfold. TheMusicNote
